The Senior Software Engineer, Android role is based in San Mateo, CA. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, ingenuity, and excellent communication skills. The engineer will use their deep understanding of Android native development, system internals, and telemetry frameworks to help pave the way for future innovation on SIE's platforms. The role involves contributing to critical infrastructure systems for mobile applications, including telemetry and logging solutions, before transitioning to UI implementation for the next-generation cross-platform mobile application, applying industry standard best practices to deliver fluid, performant experiences with maximum extensibility.

Requirements

Genuine passion for crafting seamless, reliable mobile experiences, prioritizing both system performance and user experience.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of experience in Android native development with strong expertise in Java/Kotlin and Android Studio.
Proven experience implementing telemetry, analytics, and logging solutions in production mobile applications.
Deep understanding of Android system internals, debugging tools, and performance profiling methodologies.
Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React/React Native, Angular, or similar technologies for building responsive interfaces and dynamic applications.
Strong understanding of mobile landscapes, architectures, and trends in Android development, including emerging technologies.
Proven experience with Agile development methodologies, such as Scrum.
Demonstrated ability to measure and optimize application performance, with expertise in metrics collection and analysis.

Nice To Haves

Experience with enterprise telemetry and monitoring platforms.
Knowledge of data serialization formats and efficient data transmission protocols.
Experience with React Native bridge development and native module creation.
Experience with open-source contributions, especially library development.
Experience in developing multi-threaded applications with a strong understanding of concurrency and synchronization.
Proficiency in designing and implementing GraphQL APIs.
Understanding of privacy compliance considerations for data collection.

Responsibilities

Design and implement comprehensive telemetry, logging, and diagnostic systems for mobile applications, ensuring robust monitoring and analytics capabilities.
Build and integrate frameworks to streamline development across mobile and console teams, enhancing efficiency and collaboration.
Development of mobile applications using Agile methodologies like Scrum, delivering iterative improvements and meeting project milestones.
Develop and maintain high-quality applications using both Android native technologies and React Native, ensuring they are production-ready and meet performance standards.
Implement reusable components and infrastructure, focusing on scalability and maintainability. Apply architectural patterns like MVC, MVVM, and MVP.
Collaborate closely with international teams of UI designers and product managers (USA, Japan, UK) to translate requirements into actionable work packages, creating engaging mobile user experiences.
Identify performance bottlenecks through telemetry data and craft solutions to improve customer delight.
