About The Position

We're building the AI-powered agent experience for Amazon Ads — the chat-first interface that will change how hundreds of thousands of advertisers manage campaigns, analyze performance, and optimize strategy. We need a Senior SDE to lead the technical architecture and hands-on delivery of this experience. The Advertiser Experience Frameworks team owns the experience layer of the Ads Agent — the chat interface, advertiser-facing communications, feedback systems, and the frameworks and services that enable dozens of partner teams to integrate agent capabilities into their pages across the Amazon Ads Console. This is not a heads-down coding role that takes specs and delivers features. You'll need strong product instincts — the ability to look at an advertiser workflow, understand where friction exists, and form a point of view on how agent-driven experiences should work. You'll need to either bring knowledge of the advertising business or demonstrate the curiosity and learning speed to develop it quickly, because the quality of your technical decisions depends on understanding how advertisers actually think about campaigns, budgets, and performance. The role spans the full stack of an AI application — from front-end chat interfaces and UI frameworks, through middleware services, APIs, and event architectures, to agent infrastructure, orchestration frameworks, skill definitions, and evaluation/quality systems that ensure agent responses meet a high bar before reaching advertisers. You'll also be expected to embrace and advance AI-native development practices — using AI tools and agentic coding techniques to accelerate how the team builds software. This is a horizontal team role: dozens of teams across Amazon Ads integrate with your frameworks. You set technical direction that other teams build on, define API contracts and integration patterns across organizational boundaries, and maintain platform quality as adoption scales rapidly. The right candidate has designed and built systems at scale across multiple layers — from user-facing interfaces to backend services to agent infrastructure and evaluation — has recent hands-on experience building AI-powered products (particularly with LLM-based or agent-oriented systems), and brings product thinking to every technical decision.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Strong proficiency across the full stack of AI applications — front-end frameworks, middleware services, APIs, agent infrastructure, and evaluation systems
  • Experience with AI-native development practices — using AI tools and agentic coding techniques to accelerate software delivery

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical architecture and hands-on delivery across the full AI application stack — UI, services, agent infrastructure, orchestration, and evaluation — for the Ads Agent experience and integration framework used by dozens of partner teams.
  • Bring product thinking to every technical decision: develop deep understanding of advertiser workflows so architecture choices reflect how advertisers actually use the product.
  • Set architectural direction on a horizontal platform team: define integration patterns and API contracts that dozens of teams build on, lead design reviews, and maintain quality as adoption scales.
  • Establish and exemplify best practices for building AI applications (evaluation methodologies, quality guardrails, prompt engineering, orchestration patterns) and for AI-native development (using AI tools and agentic coding to accelerate the team's delivery).
  • Drive operational excellence and mentor engineers across the team.
