Senior Software Developer - TS/SCI with Polygraph

General Dynamics Information TechnologyAnnapolis Junction, MD
$161,500 - $218,500Onsite

About The Position

We are looking for a versatile Senior Software Developer to design, build, and deliver mission-critical software for a government customer in the U.S. Intelligence Community. This is a wear-multiple-hats role for an engineer who is comfortable across the whole stack — someone who can set the architectural direction for a system and then chase a problem through it all the way down to the kernel. You'll participate across the full software development lifecycle — designing and documenting systems, writing code and automated tests, and planning and monitoring production deployments — taking ownership of what you build, from architecture and implementation through containerized build and deployment. You'll bring modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, to a team that values reliability and maintainability above all. People are our advantage: we invest in your growth as much as you invest in the mission.

Requirements

  • Technical Training, Certification(s) or Degree
  • 8+ years of related professional software development experience.
  • Systems-level programming in Go and/or Rust
  • strong Linux and shell/Bash, with working knowledge down to the kernel level
  • software/systems architecture and design experience
  • experience building secure, highly available distributed systems
  • building and deploying containerized software (e.g., Docker/OCI)
  • writing automated tests
  • CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code
  • hands-on experience with AI-assisted or agentic coding tools
  • Must be able to obtain TS/SCI w/Poly
  • US citizenship required
  • Able to architect systems and make sound technical trade-off decisions
  • strong ability to debug issues in complex, distributed systems
  • comfortable wearing multiple hats and working across the full stack, from code to kernel
  • able to troubleshoot and harden systems when needed
  • works independently under limited supervision
  • strong written and verbal communication
  • willingness to adopt and integrate AI tools into the engineering workflow

Nice To Haves

  • Kubernetes (highly sought after)
  • GitOps-based continuous delivery with Flux or Argo CD
  • systems-level experience in C or C++
  • front-end/UI development with TypeScript and React
  • container tooling (Docker Compose)
  • Renovate
  • experience with monitoring, alerting, and debugging large-scale distributed systems
  • experience building tools and APIs
  • open-source contribution or maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Architects software systems and services end to end — defining structure, interfaces, and technology choices, and weighing trade-offs against mission requirements and constraints.
  • Researches, designs, develops, and modifies enterprise software and services across all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Produces architecture and design artifacts and documentation that establish patterns others build against and support long-term maintainability and evolution.
  • Builds production code primarily in Go and Rust, with shell/Bash for automation and supporting tooling, and writes the automated tests that keep it reliable.
  • Contributes to user-facing interfaces using TypeScript and React where the work calls for it.
  • Develops with AI-assisted and agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenAI Codex) as part of the daily workflow — analyzing and extending codebases, introspecting production systems, and accelerating problem-solving — while applying sound judgment about where they help and where human review is essential.
  • Packages, builds, and deploys software as containers within modern container-orchestrated and GitOps-driven environments, then plans, manages, and monitors production deployments — taking ownership of the reliability of what they build.
  • Builds internal developer tooling, CLIs, and APIs that make build and deployment workflows faster and more reliable.
  • Wears multiple hats across the stack — moving fluidly between application code, the container runtime, the operating system, and the kernel to debug and deliver across complex, distributed systems.

  • a vision plan
  • a 401(k) plan offering the ability to contribute both pre and post-tax dollars up to the IRS annual limits and receive a company match
  • full flex work weeks where possible
  • a variety of paid time off plans, including vacation, sick and personal time, holidays, paid parental, military, bereavement and jury duty leave
  • short and long-term disability benefits
  • life, accidental death and dismemberment, personal accident, critical illness and business travel and accident insurance are provided or available
