Purpose: The Senior Software Developer is responsible for building and maintaining streamlined and effective application code that helps the company in minimizing administrative costs and maximizing information flow. The incumbent is responsible for meeting software application development timetables; ensuring code development follows Athene standards and best practices; documenting software applications developed or changes to existing software applications; and unit testing developed code to ensure minimal defects upon promotion to integration and Quality Assurance testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Information Technology or related field plus 5 years of experience as a Senior Software Developer, Developer, Software Engineer, or similar duties under a different job title.
  • Athene will accept as a foreign equivalent a 3-year Bachelor’s degree plus a 3-year Master of Computer Applications degree.
  • 5 years of experience in the following: Working within the annuity and/or retirement savings insurance industry; ALIP Annuity platform; ALIP Data Structure; ALIP Configuration tools and designs; Writing and maintaining Annuity Policy Administration Systems for DTCC, Financial Activity Reporting (FAR), and Financial and Non-Financial Transaction Requests; MS Orchestration or Control-M for Job Configuration and Scheduling Batch jobs; Programming in Python with three or more of the following libraries: JSON, CSV, OS, requests, sys, psycopg2, lxml, pytest, ConfigParser, and/or Argparser; Spring, Spring Boot, Web Application and Web Services; Developing and managing APIs with Java, Rest, SOAP, and Python; Writing code that interacts with relational databases using Postgres, Oracle, or MS SQL Server; Splunk/ELK stack, Grafana, or OpsGenie; AWS; and Agile.

Responsibilities

  • Supports all projects encompassing the vendor product Annuity Policy Admin system (ALIP) and the downstream integration with other impacted systems.
  • Analyzes business requirements and provides technical designs for strategic projects for Policy Admin system (ALIP).
  • Analyzes and fixes Production issues both related to business data and technical problems for the Policy Admin System (ALIP).
  • Builds and maintains APIs supporting the vendor product ALIP.
  • Build reports and queries against ALIP database.
  • Builds efficient back-end features in Java/Python & SQL (primarily PostgresSQL).
  • Builds and maintains APIs.
  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents and implements changes to new and existing software applications.
  • Ensures quality and controls are in place, managing escalations, and developing and recommending solutions.
  • Participates in design and codes small to large software applications as part of a team.
  • Resolves complex software issues across multiple software applications and platforms.
  • Communicates and presents software to the team, management, and stakeholders.
