About The Position

Empower AI is looking for a highly experienced remote Senior Lead Software Developer to lead the architecture, design, development, and modernization of enterprise applications. This is a senior technical leadership role requiring an individual who can independently architect complex solutions, make technology decisions, and lead development efforts from concept through production. The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in AWS cloud technologies, full-stack application development, modern software architecture, API design, containerization, DevSecOps, and AI-assisted software engineering. The individual will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, architects, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable enterprise solutions.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in enterprise software development.
5+ years designing enterprise application architectures independently.
Demonstrated ability to lead the technical design of complex, large-scale systems.
Strong expertise in AWS cloud-native application development.
Extensive experience with Node.js, Python, Java, JavaScript, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
Strong experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
Experience with Docker and container orchestration technologies.
Strong knowledge of DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and secure software development.
Experience mentoring development teams and leading technical initiatives.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice To Haves

AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Developer Certification.
Experience with Kubernetes (Amazon EKS or OpenShift).
Experience with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or ESRI.
Experience with AI development tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, Amazon Q, Claude).
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
Experience supporting federal or regulated environments.

Responsibilities

Independently design end-to-end enterprise application architectures.
Define technical architecture, system integration strategies, and application roadmaps.
Design scalable, secure, high-availability, and cloud-native solutions.
Develop application, integration, deployment, and data architecture artifacts.
Evaluate technologies and recommend architecture patterns and frameworks.
Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture, security, and governance standards.
Lead technical design reviews and architecture discussions.
Design, develop, and maintain enterprise web applications.
Build scalable backend services using Node.js, Python, and Java.
Develop modern frontend applications using JavaScript and contemporary frameworks.
Perform code reviews and establish development standards.
Mentor developers and promote engineering best practices.
Design and implement solutions using AWS services including: EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS (SQL Server/PostgreSQL), S3, IAM, CloudWatch, SNS/SQS, Secrets Manager, VPC Networking.
Design RESTful APIs and microservices.
Define API standards and governance.
Implement secure authentication and authorization.
Integrate enterprise systems and third-party platforms.
Produce API documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger.
Design relational database architectures.
Develop optimized SQL solutions using SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
Perform data modeling, indexing, and performance tuning.
Support database modernization and migration initiatives.
Develop and deploy containerized applications using Docker.
Design and implement solutions using Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, or Amazon EKS.
Support Infrastructure as Code and automated deployments.
Design and implement CI/CD pipelines.
Integrate automated testing and security scanning.
Champion secure coding practices and DevSecOps principles.
Support automated deployments and release management.
Leverage AI tools to improve software development productivity and quality.
