About The Position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is hiring a Senior Software Developer focused on Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for a full-time, 100% U.S.-based remote role supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. The position owns functional EDI workflows, partner requirements, and data validation rules to ensure accurate transaction processing and support business operations. The role interprets and troubleshoots healthcare transaction sets, analyzes compliance and partner-specific validation requirements, documents mappings and integration changes, and works with stakeholders to resolve issues and assess operational impact. The developer collaborates with EDI analysts, DevSecOps engineers, cloud teams, business teams, and integration specialists. Work includes supporting AS2, SFTP, and HTTPS flows; validating data exchanged with non-X.12 partners; identifying middleware- or API-related issues; querying SQL transaction details; validating payloads, timestamps, statuses, and error flags; and reconciling raw EDI with stored data. The position also supports audit and compliance reviews, maintains data quality guardrails, and creates and updates transaction-flow documentation, error reports, SOPs, and partner reference guides. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI). Candidates residing in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington will not be considered. This is a W-2 position. Applicants selected are subject to a government security investigation and other background checks. Interviews take place on Microsoft Teams with camera enabled; applicants will be asked to provide a LinkedIn profile link.
