Senior Software Developer, Delivery Platform
About The Position
The Delivery Platform team owns the complete deployment lifecycle at Wealthsimple, from code commit to production. They build and maintain CI/CD infrastructure, deployment systems, and observability tools that enable hundreds of engineers to ship secure, high-quality software to millions of users efficiently. The platform includes GitHub Actions, Kargo, ArgoCD, Argo Rollouts for progressive delivery, package publishing, artifact promotion, and observability through Datadog and Backstage. Reliability is their north star, and deployment velocity is their measure of success. As a Senior Developer, you will architect systems for fast, safe, and transparent code shipping, supporting engineers using Ruby, Python, Kotlin, and TypeScript. Your work will empower hundreds of developers to deploy frequently with confidence.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in software development, with significant experience in platform engineering, DevOps, CI/CD, or site reliability engineering.
- Deep expertise with modern deployment and orchestration technologies, including hands-on experience with Kubernetes, GitOps workflows (ArgoCD or similar), progressive delivery patterns, and managing CI/CD infrastructure at scale.
- Strong experience building and operating deployment pipelines, including designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD systems using tools like Buildkite, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.
- Expertise in reliability engineering and observability, including experience building observable systems with monitoring platforms like Datadog, Prometheus, or similar, and understanding SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
- Technical versatility with multiple languages, including experience with TypeScript, Ruby, Python, Kotlin, or similar languages.
- Infrastructure as code and cloud platforms experience, including AWS, Terraform, or similar infrastructure automation tools.
- Product mindset for internal platforms, treating deployment infrastructure as a product with internal developers as customers.
- A collaborative spirit and passion for mentorship, enjoying coaching other developers and presenting technical concepts.
- Data-informed decision-making, using metrics to identify opportunities, measure impact, and guide technical decisions.
Responsibilities
- Evolve progressive delivery with Argo Rollouts and GitOps, enhancing canary deployment strategies, automated health checks, and rollback triggers, and building self-service deployment tools.
- Optimize CI/CD infrastructure at scale, improving CI workflows for speed and reliability, optimizing build times, enhancing artifact management and package publishing, and building faster, more dependable continuous integration tools.
- Build deployment gates and guardrails to prevent production incidents, designing and implementing automated quality checks like end-to-end testing, load testing, and progressive delivery validations.
- Build world-class deployment observability and visibility through comprehensive monitoring, dashboards, and alerting using Datadog and custom tooling, integrating deployment metrics into Backstage.
- Drive Wealthsimple's 2026 reliability mission by building systems that implement chaos testing, automated rollback mechanisms, and deployment confidence metrics.
- Champion engineering excellence and mentorship, partnering with teams to understand deployment pain points, building solutions, sharing expertise through documentation and training, and mentoring engineers.
