About The Position

We are hiring a Senior C++ Developer to join our Industry Engineering team here at Unity, based in our Montreal office and working closely with engineers and and clients based in the North America region. This group builds the import and optimization path that brings large, heavy engineering and design data into a real-time engine, for our non-gaming customers. You will work on the geometry side of that path, bringing real depth in 3D geometry and the math behind it. The inputs are large, dense, machine-generated geometry. The outputs have to render at interactive frame rates without looking wrong. Everything interesting happens in between, and it has to work unattended, on scenes far larger than memory budgets would like.

Requirements

  • Deep professional experience with modern C++ in a performance-sensitive production context.
  • Real 3D geometry and math skills from production work.
  • Ability to reason about numerical robustness, including floating-point behavior, tolerances, and the degenerate cases that break geometric code.
  • Profiling and optimization experience on memory-heavy workloads.
  • Comfort reading academic or technical papers and implementing them.
  • Experience utilizing AI tooling in your engineering workflow.
  • Sufficient knowledge of English to have professional verbal and written exchanges in this language.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with real-time engines.
  • Experience with GPU compute for geometry or image processing.
  • Experience running native code as a scaled cloud service.

Responsibilities

  • Work on the geometry algorithms behind asset import and optimization: turning source geometry into renderable meshes, reducing mesh complexity, and generating levels of detail.
  • Improve how imperfect input is handled: closing gaps, fixing degenerate and inverted geometry, and making questionable source data usable downstream.
  • Solve for robustness, memory footprint, and runtime at real customer scale, so that an algorithm which works on a test model also holds up on a scene orders of magnitude larger.
  • Read the literature and translate published geometry research into production C++.
  • Deliver this work as an automated cloud service that runs at scale.
  • Help the team work out where AI tooling genuinely helps in geometry and systems work, and where it does not. We use it daily and are still figuring this out.
