About The Position

Moog's Defense Group, a leading provider of motion and flow control solutions for various defense and aerospace markets, is seeking a Senior Design Engineer specializing in Slip Rings. This role is based in Blacksburg, VA, and involves working on high-reliability slip ring assemblies. The engineer will be a key contributor, guiding designs from the proposal phase through detailed development, analysis, production drawings, and manufacturing support. The position offers an opportunity to expand Moog's technology through internal research and development efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a mechanical or aeronautical engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the design and analysis of precision rotating electromechanical equipment.
• Extensive experience in mechanical design, including design for manufacture/assembly of production hardware.
• Experience using CAD/CAE.
• Experience with FEA.
• Experience applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) on engineering prints for production hardware.
• Experience reviewing peers’ designs and documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Knowledge of machining/manufacturing capabilities and drafting standards.
• Knowledge of electrical principles.

Responsibilities

• Establish concepts and requirements for the design and analysis of high reliability slip ring assemblies, covering mechanical, thermal, and electrical aspects.
• Interpret customer specifications and requirements, serving as the primary technical interface with suppliers and customers.
• Collaborate within a team of designers, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, and technical writers.
• Lead the design process from inception (bids and proposal phase) through detailed design, analysis, and creation of production drawings and documentation.
• Provide ongoing support as the slip ring product moves into production build and test.
• Support internal research and development efforts to advance Moog's existing technology.
