About The Position

The Senior Site Superintendent is an experienced member of the Austin Habitat for Humanity Construction team who provides advanced field leadership, site coordination, and hands-on construction support for new home construction projects. This position serves as a lead resource on active construction sites and helps ensure that daily construction activities, volunteer engagement, subcontractor coordination, material readiness, and project expectations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in alignment with AHFH standards. This role is intended to serve as a bridge between the Site Superintendent and Project Manager positions. The Senior Site Superintendent does not replace the Project Manager role but provides additional field leadership and continuity when Project Managers are off-site or unavailable. The position supports team development by helping train Site Superintendents, Assistant Site Superintendents, AmeriCorps members, interns, recurring volunteers, and other construction site participants. The successful candidate will have strong construction knowledge, sound judgment, a collaborative leadership style, and a passion for Austin Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building homes, communities, and hope.

Requirements

At least three years of direct residential construction experience preferred.
Prior experience in a Site Superintendent, lead construction, crew lead, or similar field leadership role preferred.
General understanding of residential building trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, foundations, framing, finishes, and how each trade impacts the construction process.
Experience working with volunteers, skilled workers, non-skilled workers, subcontractors, and diverse groups of people.
Ability to provide direction, training, and support to others with patience, professionalism, and respect.
Comfortable speaking to and leading groups of approximately 30 people.
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing site needs.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
High work ethic and willingness to remain engaged until the job is completed.
Detail-oriented, hands-on, flexible, and team-focused.
Ability to work with economically and culturally diverse populations.
Reliable transportation to job sites throughout the Austin Habitat for Humanity service area.
Valid Texas Driver’s License and current automotive liability insurance.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and related technology tools.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Procore, Smartsheet, or similar construction project management tools preferred.
Ability to operate a skid steer, forklift, or similar equipment preferred, if required by assigned duties.

Responsibilities

Lead and support daily construction activities on assigned job sites in accordance with project schedules, safety standards, and AHFH quality expectations.
Serve as the senior field resource when the assigned Project Manager is not present on site.
Help provide daily direction and coordination to Site Superintendents, Assistant Site Superintendents, AmeriCorps members, interns, recurring volunteers, and volunteers.
Support site-level decision-making by helping prioritize construction tasks, volunteer assignments, material needs, and workflow.
Promote a team-oriented environment and help resolve day-to-day site coordination challenges in a professional and constructive manner.
Communicate site progress, challenges, and concerns to the assigned Project Manager or Construction leadership.
Help ensure construction tasks are completed according to the build schedule and established project priorities.
Demonstrate and reinforce safe, efficient, and high-quality construction practices.
Assist in training Site Superintendents, Assistant Site Superintendents, AmeriCorps members, interns, recurring volunteers, and other construction team members on AHFH construction processes and expectations.
Provide hands-on coaching and guidance related to building techniques, site safety, volunteer leadership, daily task planning, and quality standards.
Model effective communication, professionalism, patience, and mission-centered leadership on job sites.
Help create consistency in how construction tasks, volunteer management, and daily site operations are carried out across projects.
Support the development of newer team members by helping them understand AHFH construction standards, site expectations, and project workflow.
Lead volunteers on home build days and provide clear, safe, and respectful instruction.
Provide training and direction to volunteers, AmeriCorps members, interns, partner families, and recurring volunteers on construction tasks and site expectations.
Ensure volunteers and partner families are assigned meaningful and appropriate work based on project needs and safety considerations.
Maintain a positive, efficient, respectful, and welcoming atmosphere for volunteers, homeowners, partner families, staff, and visitors.
Help ensure all individuals on site follow AHFH safety practices and worksite procedures.
Coordinate scheduled subcontractors, inspections, and site activities in collaboration with the assigned Project Manager.
Assist with subcontractor coordination when Project Managers are off-site or unavailable.
Communicate scheduling needs, worksite readiness, and project concerns to the assigned Project Manager.
Help identify project issues, schedule impacts, or quality concerns and escalate them appropriately.
Support the coordination of materials, tools, equipment, and site resources needed for weekly construction activity.
Assist with receiving, counting, verifying, and organizing construction materials delivered to job sites.
Assist with material takeoffs, ordering needs, and project readiness as assigned.
Monitor construction work for quality, consistency, and adherence to AHFH standards.
Help ensure work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable worksite safety expectations.
Assist with maintaining project documentation, site records, punch lists, delivery records, and other construction-related information as assigned.
Support final walkthrough preparation and assist with homeowner walkthroughs as needed.
Assist with completion of final walkthrough punch list items within established timelines.
Help identify gaps, delays, or needed adjustments in project execution and communicate those items to the Project Manager or Construction leadership.
Participate in meetings, trainings, classes, and events as assigned.
Prepare construction materials, tools, and accessories for upcoming construction activity.
Perform site deliveries and pickups as needed.
Support special projects or construction-related assignments in collaboration with the Construction team.
Assist with maintaining clean, organized, and safe job sites.
Perform other duties as assigned.
