About The Position

Dev Technology is expanding its programs and technical challenges, seeking a Senior Serverless Architect (AWS) to help scale thoughtfully while delivering high-quality, mission-critical systems for the federal government, including programs supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE. This role is for a senior technical leader who values partnership and ownership in solving complex data and integration problems, delivering durable, high-quality solutions with real-world impact. The position blends technical leadership with hands-on delivery, requiring sound judgment, curiosity, and a deep understanding of problems before acting. The ideal candidate will join a collaborative engineering organization and remain close to the work, reviewing designs, troubleshooting issues, and improving system performance and reliability.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Production AWS serverless experience — you have built and operated systems using Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, SQS, and S3 (not just prototypes or certifications)
  • Event-driven architecture — you have designed systems where services communicate through events/messages rather than direct API calls. You understand eventual consistency and its tradeoffs.
  • Node.js — strong production experience. This is a JavaScript/Node.js platform.
  • DynamoDB — hands-on experience with single-table design, streams, and global tables (not just relational databases)
  • Infrastructure as code — experience with Serverless Framework, AWS CDK, SAM, or CloudFormation
  • Federal or regulated environment experience collaborating with government clients
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain DHS clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DynamoDB Streams for change data capture and event publishing
  • Experience with data lake architectures (S3 + Athena + Glue, medallion/bronze-silver-gold patterns)
  • Experience with micro-frontend architectures (Single-SPA, Module Federation, or similar)
  • Familiarity with event sourcing and CQRS patterns at the system level
  • Experience with multi-region active-active deployments on AWS
  • Experience with Kinesis Firehose for streaming data ingestion
  • AWS certifications (DevOps Pro, Solutions Architect Pro, or Security Specialty)
  • Familiarity with Software Architecture Patterns for Serverless Systems by John Gilbert or a similar event-driven serverless methodology
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud or FedRAMP-authorized systems
  • Experience mentoring teams of 3+ engineers on cloud-native platforms

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve cloud-native, serverless architectures supporting large, complex data sets and high-volume event-driven data flows
  • Work directly with customers to understand mission needs, clarify constraints, and explore tradeoffs that lead to durable solutions
  • Serve as a trusted technical partner to program leadership — providing perspective during key decisions, stepping in when needed, and helping teams navigate complexity
  • Build trusted partnerships with federal clients while mentoring and guiding technical teams
  • Remain hands-on with design, code, and technical problem-solving
  • Design and implement event-driven, serverless architectures on AWS using Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, SQS, and Kinesis
  • Architect and maintain systems where services communicate exclusively through domain events — no synchronous inter-service coupling
  • Build and support data pipelines handling high-volume event streams (Firehose, S3, Athena, Glue)
  • Set architectural direction and enforce best practices across a platform of 20+ autonomous microservices
  • Stay hands-on with coding, code reviews, troubleshooting, and performance tuning in Node.js
  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to translate mission needs into technical solutions
  • Mentor engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
  • Contribute to CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud security practices
  • Guide micro-frontend architecture decisions (Single-SPA, React, independently deployed UI modules)

Benefits

  • Generous and flexible time-off policy
  • Flexible work schedules and telework options, including remote work availability for eligible projects
  • Career development opportunities including a mentorship program, technical and management training through Dev University, hands-on learning through DevLab, tuition reimbursement, and paid training opportunities
  • Industry-leading benefits including a choice of two health plans that include dental and vision, flexible spending account, commuter benefits, life insurance, and more
  • 401K matching with a 5% matching contribution
  • Regular team and company social events including our annual party, happy hours, fitness challenges, and more
  • A focus on community engagement including company wide support activities, employer match for donations, and time off for volunteer efforts
