Senior Sensor Engineer

Anduril•Irvine, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Anduril’s Air Defense team builds autonomous robots that find other robots and knock them out of the sky. This team is the nexus of premier Anduril-built products such as Roadrunner, Sentry, Anvil, Pulsar, and Wisp integrated into a software-enabled Air Defense family of systems tailored to the modern battlespace. At a time when air superiority can no longer be taken for granted, we provide critical force protection capabilities to support the warfighter. Our autonomous family of networked sensors and effectors enables our users to rapidly close the kill chain against a broad range of UAS threats that continue to evolve at a rapid pace. Every kill chain we close starts with multiple networked sensor modalities to identify threats far before we can see them. We are looking for a Senior Sensor Engineer to join our rapidly growing Air Defense team based in Irvine, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for integrating new sensor modalities into our family of systems: RF and radar front ends, electro-optical/infrared assemblies, acoustic arrays, and the detection hardware behind them. You will lead the development and integration of first party and third-party sensors to take integrated sensors through conceptual design, system integration and test, and field deployment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated depth in multi-modal sensor architecture and sensor selection, with a working command of the detection physics that bounds each one.
  • Ability to exercise high ownership over a complex system across design, integration, test, and production.
  • Demonstrated experience specifying and verifying sensing performance quantitatively, including detection and false alarm characterization, range performance analysis, and validation of a model against measured data
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with environmental qualification of military systems, such as MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461
  • Experience with networks of distributed sensors
  • Experience with modeling systems of sensors using AFSIM
  • Knowledge of common communication busses (I2C, SPI, UART, RS-422/485, Eth, PCIe)
  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance

Responsibilities

  • Own sensor hardware integrations end to end, from requirements through architecture, block diagram, and simulation
  • Evaluate performance of multiple sensing modalities such as RF/radar front ends, electro-optical/infrared assemblies, acoustic arrays, and other emerging sensor families.
  • Drive the verification and validation strategy for perception and make the determination of which sensor fits which mission.
  • Integrate sensor hardware with the rest of the kill chain, working alongside effector, autonomy, and Lattice teams to turn a raw detection into a closed engagement
  • Represent Anduril externally as a technical authority on airborne sensing, including standards and industry bodies, sensor vendors and development partners, and technical engagement with customers
