About The Position

Apple Services Engineering Security builds secure systems and infrastructure for Apple services, including iCloud, iTunes, Siri, the App Store, and Maps. The Security Automation team builds tools, systems, and services that automate security assurance across Apple’s services, including vulnerability and rapid risk assessment, design review tooling, and registers of security-critical applications, data, and environments. Its capabilities include risk-scoring pipelines, compliance workflows, and an agentic risk-assessment layer. The role is for a versatile, hands-on senior software engineer who moves between systems according to organizational priorities. Work may include implementing services on a new platform, refactoring legacy tools used by security reviewers, and preparing systems for reliable, low-maintenance production operation. The engineer will collaborate with technical leads and the hiring manager on technical direction, independently own critical components from design through production, establish strong production engineering practices, and mentor engineers while influencing technical solutions.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience building, operating, and maintaining production software, including backend services and automation.
  • High proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, or Java.
  • Experience building production web frontends with TypeScript and React.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, containers and Kubernetes, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
  • Experience maintaining legacy production systems, refactoring or migrating them into new systems, and building new systems from scratch.
  • A track record of building systems for operational excellence, including staged deployments, test environments, automated testing, and observability.
  • Experience integrating first-party and third-party APIs, tools, and services into reliable end-to-end workflows.
  • MS or BS, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; alternatively, equivalent practical experience in Software or Security Engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Production experience in more than one of Python, Go, or Java.
  • Working knowledge of application and cloud security concepts, including threat modeling, vulnerabilities, and secure configuration.
  • Experience with security tooling such as SAST/SCA scanners, SBOM tooling, or vulnerability intelligence platforms.
  • Experience building LLM- or agent-based features, integrating agents with existing systems (tool calling, MCP), or evaluating AI output quality.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud resources such as S3, EC2, Lambda, and Step Functions.
  • Experience building batch or streaming data pipelines.
  • Experience with Swift or mobile development.
  • Experience delivering tooling used by non-engineers, such as security reviewers or analysts.
  • A track record of mentoring engineers and improving engineering practices beyond one's own work.

Responsibilities

  • Build, support, refactor, and ship software across the team's security automation systems.
  • Implement critical services on new platforms.
  • Refactor or migrate legacy tools used by security reviewers.
  • Prepare systems for production operation with low friction and low maintenance.
  • Collaborate with technical leads and the hiring manager on technical direction.
  • Independently own delivery of critical components from design through production.
  • Set standards for building systems that operate well in production.
  • Mentor engineers and influence their technical solutions.
