Senior Security Engineer (Infrastructure)
About The Position
Chainguard is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to engineer and secure its multi-cloud environment, which is the foundation of its product. This role is crucial for a cloud-native, AI-obsessed company where the cloud infrastructure directly impacts product development speed and safety. The engineer will be responsible for securing the open source software supply chain end-to-end, which is central to Chainguard's mission. The position reports to the Sr Director of Cyber Resiliency, and the engineer will be embedded in project pods, collaborating with product engineering partners. As a late-stage startup, the role requires adaptability to shifting priorities, tooling, and scope.
Requirements
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong, hands-on GCP or AWS engineering experience required.
- Solid DevOps background: comfortable using Terraform/IaC, Kubernetes (GKE), and CI/CD pipelines.
- A track record of designing systems that are secure, resilient, and built to accelerate engineering velocity.
- Comfort with ambiguity and rapid change.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Azure is a plus.
- Prior experience at a fast-moving or late-stage startup is a strong plus.
Responsibilities
- Engineer and maintain cloud environments that are secure, resilient, and optimized for performance.
- Partner with internal engineering teams to integrate security into architecture and developer tooling.
- Collaborate with IAM counterparts to design and enforce secure identity and access strategies across cloud environments.
- Harden cloud platforms against emerging threats while ensuring resilience and high availability.
- Lead cloud-centric disaster recovery exercises.
- Implement automation, pipelines, and guardrails using Terraform/IaC and Kubernetes, embodying a DevOps mindset.
- Secure the infrastructure supporting AI-driven pipelines and agentic workflows, which increasingly consume the software supply chain.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to product engineering, translating requirements into secure, adoptable infrastructure.
- Adapt architecture and priorities to support company scaling, adjusting plans based on evolving needs, tooling, or team structure.
- Assist in relevant incident response investigations.
