About The Position

Justworks is seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Security Engineer specializing in AI to drive and execute the company’s AI strategy and Digital Security objectives. This role builds and enhances security solutions for AI systems, evaluates software systems with AI features, and designs guardrails to protect company data from AI-specific threats. The engineer also provides technical and architectural guidance to product managers, product engineers, corporate IT, engineering, and risk teams, and helps deliver the AI security roadmap across AWS and corporate environments.

The role researches AI threats, vulnerabilities, remediations, and security controls; assesses AI tools and governance; develops security architecture and design standards; and helps ensure controls are incorporated into AI research and development before production. It also supports incident triage, advances security processes and controls, and champions AI implementation within Digital Security to improve security controls, operations, and risk management.

The position calls for strong security architecture and engineering experience, hands-on experience securing AI systems, knowledge of AI/ML technologies and related privacy and regulatory practices, and scripting or automation skills. Relevant technologies include Go, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, AWS, AI frameworks and hosting platforms, vector databases, AI coding assistants, MCP and Agent-to-Agent Protocol, DevOps, Jira, and agile automation tools. The stated base wage range for the New York City office is $188,000 to $242,000 per year; compensation varies by candidate and work location.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience with information security concepts, technical security controls, and security architecture design principles; SaaS experience is ideal.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience securing AI systems, evaluating AI threats, and implementing AI security controls.
• Background as a software engineer, security architect, or security engineer, including experience implementing security controls in AI environments on AWS.
• Experience setting up and deploying AI engineering tools such as vector databases, AI model hosting, and monitoring tools, and promoting security best practices for AI coding assistants.
• Solid experience with Secure-SDLC and DevSecOps, including secure design, threat modeling, and vulnerability management.
• Experience monitoring AI systems for security threats and vulnerabilities.
• Knowledge of AI/ML technologies, frameworks, and platforms.
• Knowledge of regulations and industry best practices related to AI security and data privacy.
• Familiarity with secure coding practices and security scanning technologies.
• Extensive experience in security architecture, system design, and engineering scalable security solutions in a cloud-native AWS environment.
• Experience with scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Ruby, or JavaScript.

Responsibilities

• Research AI threats, the AI threat landscape, vulnerabilities, remediations, and advances in AI security controls.
• Evaluate AI tools and contribute to AI system management and governance.
• Assess existing AI security controls and identify ways to improve security posture and software designs.
• Collaborate with security engineers to deliver appropriate security capabilities.
• Provide technical and architectural guidance on AI security to product managers, product engineers, and corporate IT.
• Work with the team to execute the AI roadmap, including implementing AI security capabilities in AWS and corporate environments.
• Develop AI security architecture and design standards across applications and infrastructure, aligned with internal policies.
• Participate in AI research and development projects and major AI initiatives to ensure security controls are in place before production cutover.
• Drive process-improvement and control-implementation projects with the broader Digital Technology team.
• Partner with engineering and risk teams to establish AI security control requirements as a cross-functional tools and services expert.
• Help Cyber Defense Operations triage incidents, particularly AI security incidents in internal networks and AWS production environments.
• Champion AI implementation within Digital Security, helping teams use AI models to improve security controls, security operations, and risk management.
