About The Position

Bristol Myers Squibb’s Cell Therapy Drug Safety Evaluation team in Seattle is seeking a research scientist to support the safety evaluation of ex vivo and in vivo CAR-T products. The role is primarily laboratory-based and focuses on addressing toxicology challenges in cell therapy, including strategies involving gene editing and cell engineering. The scientist designs and performs experiments to assess on- and off-target risks, develops cell- and tissue-based in vitro models and molecular assays, and contributes expertise in preclinical safety evaluation of engineered T-cell therapies. The role also involves communicating findings to project teams and collaborators through presentations and technical reports, delivering project goals, and contributing innovations in safety evaluation for T-cell therapy modalities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years, Master's degree with 5+ years, or PhD with 2+ years of relevant academic and/or industry experience.
  • Scientific expertise demonstrated through a strong publication record and/or scientific presentations.
  • Experience designing, executing, and interpreting in vitro functional assays supporting immunology, gene editing, or cell therapy research programs.
  • Excellent laboratory skills in cell and molecular biology, with expertise in several relevant techniques or areas.
  • Experience culturing primary cells, such as monocytes, lymphocytes, fibroblasts, and hematopoietic stem cells, as well as immortalized mammalian cell lines.
  • Proficiency with common laboratory techniques, including multicolor flow cytometry, cell imaging, ELISA, Luminex, Meso Scale Discovery assays, Incucyte-based live-cell analysis, and Western blotting.
  • For flow cytometry, proficiency in assay development, panel design, and data analysis using FlowJo or similar software.
  • Proficiency in several molecular biology techniques, such as genome editing, shRNA-mediated gene silencing, gene expression analysis, and/or droplet digital PCR (ddPCR).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using analytical methods for functional characterization of T cells, including activation, cytotoxicity, cytokine secretion, proliferation, and phenotypic profiling; candidates with this experience will be prioritized.
  • Experience generating genetically modified cell lines, including transfectants and/or gene knockout cell lines.
  • Experience with viral vector-mediated gene transfer, such as lentiviral and/or retroviral transduction.
  • Experience with fluorescence and/or confocal microscopy, live-cell imaging, and image analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate ex vivo CAR and in vivo CAR T-cell products and address toxicology challenges in cell therapy, gene editing, and cell engineering.
  • Design and execute experiments to predict on- and off-target risks.
  • Develop cell- and tissue-based in vitro models and molecular assays.
  • Contribute to preclinical safety evaluation of engineered T-cell therapies and advancement of cell therapy medicines.
  • Communicate findings to project teams and collaborators through presentations and technical reports.
  • Deliver short-term project goals and drive innovation in safety evaluation for T-cell therapy modalities.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits, including wellbeing support, retirement and financial protection benefits, and medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance offerings.
  • Flexible Time Off for eligible U.S.-based exempt employees, subject to manager approval.
  • Paid vacation for eligible non-exempt employees and certain other employees, subject to manager approval.
  • 11 paid company holidays each year; eligible non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees in Puerto Rico also receive 3 optional holidays.
  • Depending on eligibility, paid sick leave, up to two paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, and leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, or military needs.
  • Eligible employees may receive an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
  • Potential eligibility for discretionary incentive cash and stock opportunities.
