Senior Scientist, Imaging Analytics

Johnson & Johnson•New Brunswick, MA

About The Position

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Senior Scientist, Imaging Analytics to join Interventional Oncology (INTO) and support the scientific application of medical imaging AI across its early-phase oncology portfolio. The role transforms routinely collected oncology clinical-trial scans—including CT, MRI, and PET—into evidence-based clinical-development decisions. The scientist will advance foundational imaging-AI capabilities, develop quantitative imaging metrics, and deliver insights to enhance response assessment, dose optimization, and go/no-go decisions. The position serves as a scientific bridge across data science, clinical development, and external partners. It can be based in New Brunswick/Raritan, New Jersey; Spring House/Horsham, Pennsylvania; or Boston, Massachusetts. The role involves hands-on research in imaging AI relevant to oncology drug development, including automated segmentation, radiomics, and multimodal predictive modeling. The scientist will provide scientific leadership to external partnerships and publish and present scientific innovations at leading scientific and clinical conferences.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Hands-on expertise across the medical imaging AI stack, including deep learning for segmentation, detection, classification, and registration; radiomics; and multimodal predictive modeling.
  • Proficiency in Python and PyTorch, with practical experience using medical-imaging libraries such as MONAI, SimpleITK, ITK, PyRadiomics, nnU-Net, 3D Slicer, and OpenCV.
  • Experience with cloud ML infrastructure and MLOps practices for scalable training and inference on imaging data.
  • Extensive experience with the full imaging-data workflow, including DICOM I/O, visualization, registration, harmonization, annotation, and segmentation of 3D medical images.
  • Strong peer-reviewed publication record and ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to technical and cross-functional audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-doctoral or industry experience developing AI/ML for medical imaging (CT, MRI, PET) in a clinical setting.
  • Experience analyzing solid-tumor imaging, particularly lung and head and neck.
  • Track record of developing and applying AI/ML to oncology imaging and oncology clinical trials.
  • Familiarity with standard oncology endpoints such as RECIST 1.1, iRECIST, and PERCIST.
  • Experience building and scaling clinical or imaging AI platforms end-to-end, including data ingestion, harmonization, model inference, visualization, and continuous monitoring.
  • Experience sourcing, structuring, and managing external partnerships with imaging-AI vendors, CROs or imaging core labs, biomarker companies, and academic centers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop imaging AI and analytics to derive quantitative imaging measures and AI-derived endpoints from clinical-trial imaging data, including CT, MRI, and PET.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams on foundational imaging-AI research relevant to oncology drug development, including automated segmentation, radiomics, and multimodal predictive modeling.
  • Provide scientific leadership to external partnerships, including imaging-AI vendors, CROs, biomarker companies, academic centers, and imaging OEMs, to accelerate model development, validation, and deployment.
  • Publish and present scientific innovations at scientific and clinical conferences such as MICCAI, AACR, and RSNA.

Benefits

  • Consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)), subject to plan terms.
  • Eligibility to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
  • Vacation: 120 hours per calendar year, subject to policy and date of hire.
  • Sick time: 40 hours per calendar year, with different amounts for employees residing in Colorado or Washington.
  • Holiday pay, including floating holidays: 13 days per calendar year.
  • Work, Personal and Family Time: up to 40 hours per calendar year.
  • Parental Leave: 480 hours within one year of the birth, adoption, or foster care of a child.
  • Bereavement Leave: up to 240 hours for an immediate family member and 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year.
  • Caregiver Leave: 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period.
  • Volunteer Leave: 32 hours per calendar year.
  • Military Spouse Time-Off: 80 hours per calendar year.
