About The Position
The Drug Product Design and Development (DPDD) group within AbbVie’s Synthetic Molecule CMC organization designs and develops drug products to deliver candidate synthetic molecules in dosage forms for clinical evaluation, from proof of concept through pivotal studies and life cycle innovation. The group collaborates across functions to develop phase-appropriate strategies, conduct studies to create bioavailable, stable, and manufacturable drug products, and deliver clinical supplies. It also optimizes formulation and manufacturing processes to develop commercializable products for Phase 3 studies and support consistent production of high-quality drug products. AbbVie is seeking a motivated and experienced drug product development leader for a Senior Scientist I position based in North Chicago, Illinois. The role works with cross-functional teams to develop drug delivery and formulation strategies; lead formulation and process design, characterization, and understanding; and advance biopharmaceutical characterization of clinical formulations. As a project lead, the scientist will advise teams, solve complex problems, drive innovation, foster productive collaborations, and communicate effectively with scientific teams and senior CMC management.
Responsibilities
- Lead formulation design for small-molecule development candidates in the AbbVie pipeline.
- Work with drug product development teams to incorporate biopharmaceutical and physicochemical considerations into formulation design.
- Advance scientific expertise within the function and advise and share knowledge and expert opinions with subordinates, peers, and senior management.
- Develop technologies and scientific innovations that improve the ability to formulate small molecules in the AbbVie pipeline.
- Collaborate with other AbbVie functions to align strategies that support drug discovery and development programs.
- Ensure compliance with AbbVie safety, quality, and regulatory policies and government regulations.
