About The Position

Process engineers support active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and natural products projects through late-stage development, commercialization, and product life cycle. This position assesses key unit operations, such as reactions and crystallizations, for process robustness, scientific understanding, and potential scale-up risks from laboratory to manufacturing environments. Effective collaboration with technical, quality, and regulatory functions, as well as on-site manufacturing personnel, is important to successful performance. The role develops scalable and robust engineering processes for modalities including small molecule APIs, antibody drug conjugates, peptides, and natural products. It requires technical expertise and strong communication in a multidisciplinary environment, along with investigation, identification, development, and optimization of methods and techniques. The position also builds productive collaborations and communication across scientific disciplines.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in chemical engineering or a related field.
  • Relevant industrial experience: 10 or more years with a BS, 8 or more years with an MS, or 0 or more years with a PhD.
  • Thorough theoretical and practical understanding of the candidate’s scientific discipline.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Apply chemical engineering principles—including chemical kinetics, transport phenomena, thermodynamics, and mathematical modeling—to experimental design, problem-solving, and data analysis.
  • Demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research and development activities.
  • Work autonomously and productively in laboratory experimentation, pilot plant, and/or manufacturing support settings, with minimal direction from or interaction with a supervisor.
  • Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data.
  • Pursue investigations with scientific impact on development or commercial programs.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot product failures and recommend remediation.
  • Author publications, presentations, technical reports, regulatory documents, and/or patents.
  • Demonstrate proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies.
  • Follow corporate standards for conduct, safety, materials handling, controlled drugs and radioactive compounds, and GxP compliance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to other project-team functions and directly mentor other engineers.
  • Build strong relationships with peers and cross-functional partners.
  • Learn quickly, understand key objectives, and change course when appropriate.
  • Seek high standards and challenge the status quo.
  • Create a learning environment that welcomes suggestions and experimentation for improvement.
  • Embrace others’ ideas and nurture innovation.
  • Provide technical and personal mentorship to others.

Benefits

  • Paid time off, including vacation, holidays, and sick time.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for eligible employees.
  • 401(k) for eligible employees.
  • Eligibility to participate in short-term incentive programs.
