Responsibilities Provides programming and troubleshooting support to the Federal Government in the dissemination of research data. Performs computation on research data analysis. Works with staff on scientific programming and experimental design. Records observations and reports results at weekly laboratory meetings. Provides statistical support/analysis on research data. Provides research/service goals in the context of the laboratory's overall mission. Evaluates new types of experimental approaches to protocols based on knowledge of scientific literature, available facilities, and research needs. Coordinates with the lab members in the use of scientific software applications, statistical software applications, and programmatic software applications. Serve as liaison for interdisciplinary collaborations with other research centers. Perform generation, processing, and analysis of large-scale genomics data sets for RNA-seq, WGS analysis, proteomics analysis, and single cell methods. Provide authoring, maintaining, and adaptation of customized computer software solutions for various scientific needs for validation of high throughput assay platform data, data file conversion and reformatting, file system search strategies, and customized R package for host / parasite functional genomics. Perform generation of custom software for algorithmic approaches to decipher complex scientific data. Provide lab members with advice on statistics, study design, data analysis, and figure generation. Assist with scientific manuscripts through statistical analysis, data visualization, generation of figures, and contributing to manuscript content. Provide interface with scientific LIMS data systems - DFexplore and Freezerworks. Provide interface with clinical teams to assist with analyzing CRFs for mistakes and data inconsistencies, track metrics of ongoing studies, and collation with signoff on final cleaned datasets. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a science related field with at least five (5) years of specialized experience in maintaining scientific programs, analyzing complex data sets.
  • Solid understanding of analytical techniques associated with whole genome sequences, microarray data or sequencing, and proteomics data.
  • In-depth knowledge of public biological sequence databases:
  • Fluency with Perl and R.
  • Good programming skills in at least one OO language: Python, Ruby, Java, C#.
  • Experience with a mainstream RDBMS: PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL or SQL Server
  • Previous experience with analysis of datasets from human malaria studies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with systems biology data and tool integration platforms is highly desirable.
  • An interest in data management systems, data mining and/or semantic web is valuable, and experience with studies of human malaria is highly preferred.
