Sr. SAP Commerce Platform Engineer

About The Position

Legrand North America is hiring a remote Senior SAP Commerce Platform Engineer for its Enterprise Digital Systems team. This is a backend-focused platform engineering role building and extending a centralized SAP Commerce backend that powers multiple brands and storefronts. The platform is evolving toward a composable, headless architecture, and the work supports both platform-owned storefronts and business-unit teams that consume platform capabilities. The engineer will develop and maintain custom SAP Commerce extensions, work across the type system, persistence, Spring-based service layer, and integration boundaries, and connect commerce with upstream enterprise systems such as ERP, PIM/Stibo, and CRM through middleware where appropriate. The role includes independent production troubleshooting using SAP Commerce Cloud and Dynatrace, with ownership of issues from investigation through permanent resolution. The position reports into Platform Engineering and partners with the platform architect on design and estimate validation. The engineer is expected to provide independent technical direction, own outcomes in their domain, contribute to design and delivery, and help raise the team's capabilities through reviews and transferable documentation.

Requirements

  • Typically 6 or more years of demonstrable SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris) backend experience, with independent ownership of substantial extension and platform work.
  • Confident extension development across the type system, persistence layer, Spring service layer, interceptors, ImpEx, and FlexibleSearch.
  • Knowledge of sound design patterns, object-oriented design principles, and layered architecture.
  • Ability to reason across the full stack, from a storefront or API request through service and persistence layers to the integration boundary, and independently locate problems.
  • Strong ability to diagnose production issues through SAP Commerce Cloud logs and Dynatrace and independently trace ambiguous symptoms to root cause.
  • Experience building and maintaining SAP Commerce integrations with upstream systems such as ERP, PIM, and CRM, including middleware integrations.
  • Ability to reason about system authority, resilience, and failure behavior across integration boundaries.
  • Ability to work independently, own outcomes end to end, make consistent progress, and communicate root cause and impact clearly.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong SQL and Solr skills and familiarity with commerce data and search layers.
  • Experience with or ability to reason about headless or composable architectures, including OCC consumed by Spartacus/Composable Storefront or a custom React frontend.
  • A track record of developing other engineers through documentation, design input, and code review.
  • Familiarity with composable or MACH architecture, Contentful or another headless CMS, Algolia, and Cloudinary.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain custom SAP Commerce extensions, including data models, service layers, facades, interceptors, cron jobs, and platform logic for a multi-brand, multi-storefront environment.
  • Work across SAP Commerce type systems, persistence, Spring-based service layers, ImpEx, FlexibleSearch, and Commerce Cloud build and deployment processes.
  • Develop new platform capabilities based on business requirements and maintain or refactor existing code, including the current accelerator-based storefront.
  • Build and maintain integrations between SAP Commerce and upstream enterprise systems such as ERP, PIM/Stibo, and CRM, using middleware where appropriate and resilient integration patterns.
  • Reason about data ownership and source-of-truth rules, and define platform behavior when upstream systems are slow, stale, or unavailable.
  • Where appropriate, design and build OCC or commerce APIs with consistent semantics and stable versioning for downstream storefronts.
  • Own production issues through reproduction, isolation, root-cause analysis, fixes, and verification.
  • Use SAP Commerce Cloud logs and Dynatrace traces, service flow, log analysis, and performance metrics to diagnose issues across the integrated architecture.
  • Communicate root cause and impact to technical and non-technical stakeholders and follow action items through to closure.
  • Conduct pull-request reviews for domain correctness and architectural adherence, and use reviews to help other developers grow.
  • Produce documentation that makes platform knowledge transferable and reduces reliance on individual team members.
  • Participate in solutioning and design to identify risks before they become sprint defects.
  • Participate in requirements and scope definition and provide estimates grounded in platform constraints.
  • Work in an Agile Kanban or sprint-based delivery model, using feature flags, fallback logic, error handling, and test coverage for new code.
