About The Position

Saber Power Services, a portfolio company of Greenbelt Capital Partners, is a fully integrated electrical power system services firm providing end-to-end solutions across utility, renewables and battery storage, industrial, petrochemical, and other markets. Based in Houston, Texas, Saber Power offers deep subject matter expertise and uses an engineering-led approach to designing, installing, testing, and maintaining medium and high-voltage electrical infrastructure. Saber serves clients locally, nationally, and abroad. Saber Power is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Sales, Use & Property Tax Accountant to join our tax team. This position will support sales, use, and property tax compliance for a multi-state electrical construction and services company. This position will be responsible for researching taxability, managing sales and use tax audits, overseeing property tax compliance, and supporting accurate tax accounting and reporting. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in sales and use tax compliance, taxability analysis, exemption certificate management, and property tax reporting, as well as hands-on experience with Avalara.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of sales and use tax and/or property tax experience
  • Bachelors in Accounting, Finance, or similar
  • Experience with sales tax software
  • Experience reconciling general ledger activity to external sales tax platform
  • Experience researching and determining taxability across multiple service lines and states
  • Experience supporting sales and use tax audits
  • Experience preparing property tax renditions and reviewing assessments
  • Experience preparing sales and use tax accrual journal entries
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax requirements
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CMI
  • Hands-on experience with Avalara
  • Construction and services industry experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamic Business Central
  • Experience in a multi-entity or multi-jurisdictional environment

Responsibilities

  • Review and ensure the timely and accurate filing of sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions
  • Perform sales and use tax reconciliations between the general ledger and Avalara
  • Review transaction-level data for accurate tax calculation and reporting
  • Research and determine taxability of products and services across jurisdictions, including complex and multi-state scenarios
  • Monitor business activity for potential nexus and new filing requirements
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on taxability and compliance requirements
  • Review and validate exemption certificates for compliance and audit readiness
  • Partner with internal teams and customers to resolve exemption-related issues
  • Manage sales and use tax audits, including data gathering, responses, and resolution findings
  • Support re-audits, voluntary disclosures, and uncollected tax recovery efforts
  • Interface with state and local tax authorities and external advisors as needed
  • Manage external relationships with property tax consultants ensure timely and accurate filings of renditions and assessments
  • Review assessed values and support appeals where appropriate
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure accurate fixed asset reporting
  • Prepare journal entries for sales and use tax accruals and reserves
  • Support balance sheet reconciliations and ensure proper financial reporting of indirect tax accounts
  • Identify opportunities to improve and expand existing tax processes, controls and reporting
  • Support automation initiatives within Avalara and ERP systems
  • Enhance documentation and audit trail for compliance and SOX readiness
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, IT, and Operations to ensure proper tax treatment of transactions
  • Provide training and guidance to business teams on indirect tax matters
