Senior Sales Engineer – Custom Automation & Machine Building

Develop LLCTown of Verona, WI
$100,000 - $130,000Onsite

About The Position

DEVELOP LLC is an engineering company that designs and builds custom machines and robotic integrations for manufacturers across the country. We are a FANUC Authorized Systems Integrator and an A3 Certified Robot Integrator based in Verona, Wisconsin. We are seeking a Senior Sales Engineer to join our team. This role is for an engineer who moved into sales or a technical seller with significant experience in selling engineered products, custom equipment, or automation. The ideal candidate has spent five or more years in this field and is looking for an uncapped commission structure, with engineering support for every deal. You will work alongside the founder, opening and developing accounts, while the founder assists with closing large builds and strategic expansions. This position exists because we have more deals in the pipeline than the current team can manage. Leads are marketing qualified through our BANT+S process before reaching you. You will own the pipeline, turning marketing qualified meetings into relationships, representing the company at trade shows, and traveling to client facilities to understand their problems firsthand. You will listen to manufacturers' needs, educate them on solutions, lead roadmap and assessment engagements, and create initial concepts for machine layouts. Your role includes qualifying leads, protecting the engineering team's time, maintaining the CRM, and closing deals, primarily paid scoping engagements or scoped machines similar to existing builds. Large, complex builds and strategic expansions will be passed to the founder. The goal is to build a book of accounts that grows year over year.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in or around manufacturing (on the floor, in the shop, in the process)
  • Manufacturing credibility; understanding of how things get made and respect for those who make them
  • Instinct to listen more than talk
  • Ability to ask for the business without flinching, handle rejection, and move deals forward
  • Patience, as sales cycles can range from 6 months to 3+ years

Nice To Haves

  • Technical sales experience in automation, industrial equipment, or engineered products (integrator, distributor, or component supplier side)
  • Familiarity with FANUC robotics, machine automation, or controls systems
  • Engineering degree, or a design or manufacturing engineering role earlier in career
  • CAD background (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD)
  • HubSpot or similar CRM experience

Responsibilities

  • Take marketing qualified meetings and turn them into relationships
  • Represent DEVELOP at 3 to 8 trade shows annually
  • Travel to client facilities to understand their problems
  • Listen to what a manufacturer is actually trying to solve and ask clarifying questions
  • Find the 'big why' behind the customer's needs (growth, capacity, quality, labor)
  • Lead roadmap and assessment engagements end to end, including selling them, running discovery on-site, and presenting findings with engineering support
  • Visualize plant floor layouts, including equipment, flow, space, and constraints
  • Translate observations into rough 2D concepts on a whiteboard or napkin during meetings
  • Perform layout work as part of paid assessments, which is billable engineering judgment
  • Run deeper qualification on leads using BANT+S and score honestly
  • Identify real opportunities and distinguish them from non-serious inquiries
  • Filter out misaligned projects to protect the engineering team's time
  • Maintain HubSpot CRM with accurate deal information (owner, stage, next action)
  • Close paid scoping engagements or scoped machines similar to existing builds
  • Facilitate technical depth by connecting engineers with the right clients
  • Pass large complex builds and strategic expansions to the founder
  • Own all other deals and build a book of accounts that grows year over year

Benefits

  • Uncapped margin-based commission
  • Fixed fees on scoping and Extension of Team engagements
  • Profit sharing (10% of company profit shared across the entire team)
  • 401(k) with 3.5% company match
  • 100% of employee health premium company paid
  • Vision, dental, elective, and dependent coverage employee paid
  • All business travel company paid
  • Personal vehicle reimbursed at the IRS standard mileage rate
