About The Position

Manage and oversee Barnhill Building Group (BBG) safety initiatives, safety loss control programs and foster a culture for field operations that embraces a “best in class” approach to safety. Train and mentor junior safety staff to ensure they understand the Barnhill safety philosophy and how it is implemented within the company. Act as needed to ensure project goals, objectives and initiatives are met in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Barnhill Contracting Company.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in construction safety management.
  • NC Driver License
  • OSHA 500
  • MSHA Certified (Part 46)
  • Train the Trainer in First Aid
  • Forklift
  • Trenching Competent Person
  • Work Zone Safety and Flagger training
  • Computer Skills: Word Excel Outlook BIM360 Spectrum Procore HCSS Power Point
  • Safety and Environmental Regulations (OSHA, MSHA)
  • Construction Technology Means and Methods
  • Equipment (Uses and limitations)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity and establish a proactive approach to Values Based Leadership
  • High level of emotional intelligence
  • Conflict management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs safety inspections and audits, clearly articulating company’s safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies and procedures to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors which lead to best-in-class results.
  • Assumes ownership of building a best-in-class safety culture by 1) anticipating problems and providing solutions 2) sharing knowledge with, and providing training, to all levels of management, field staff, preconstruction and project teams 3) interaction with clients, subcontractors and inspectors and 4) creating an environment of learning, mentoring and empowerment in order to promote employee engagement.
  • Manage hazard assessment activities by 1) implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of safety policies and procedures 2) analyzing inspection and incident data to identify opportunities to develop preventive and corrective practices.
  • Assists with training to ensure safety and health training to meet internal and external requirements, to ensure staff has the proper training to safely perform tasks and jobs.
  • Leads incident investigations and compiles data to assist in litigations of claims.
  • Manage the safety operation; develop a high performance, customer-oriented work force, through motivating, coaching, appraising, rewarding, and disciplining and addressing complaints and resolving issues as they relate to a safe work environment.
  • Works with third party inspections and Regulatory Agencies to ensure Barnhill is at the forefront of project safety management by instituting effective and realistic “common sense” safety protocols.
