About The Position

Humanoid is hiring a Senior Robotics Integration Engineer in San Diego to build and scale the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) continuous integration and continuous delivery system for its HMND-01 humanoid robot. The system will automatically run physical-hardware tests after code changes, complementing simulation by identifying regressions that only appear on real hardware. The engineer will improve existing bench rigs and automation, develop the next generation of HIL infrastructure, and serve as San Diego’s first dedicated test engineer. HIL development will be coordinated as a shared effort across offices, as part of the global Integration & Test team. The role also emphasizes using AI tools to build test platforms, triage failures, and analyze logs. The engineer will establish PR-triggered hardware test pipelines and regression coverage across robot capabilities, design and operate safe, reliable test facilities, and provide engineers with trusted results through reports, dashboards, alerts, and comparisons between simulation and hardware. The role works across embedded, controls, ML, mechanical, and manufacturing teams, and coordinates shared strategy and tooling with the Integration & Testing team in London.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in test automation, CI/CD, or test and integration engineering for hardware products such as robotics, automotive, aerospace, or drones.
  • Experience building or scaling HIL or hardware-in-CI systems, such as rig design, test orchestration, device farms, or automated hardware regression.
  • Strong Python and/or C++ skills.
  • Fluency with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, including self-hosted runners on physical hardware.
  • Comfort working at the hardware/software boundary, including reading schematics, wiring a bench, debugging over CAN, EtherCAT, or serial, and scripting power supplies, DAQs, and instruments.
  • Experience with Nvidia-based embedded targets, firmware flashing workflows, and bootloader recovery via JTAG.
  • Experience with Linux-based CLI systems.
  • Practical approach to flaky tests and maintaining a trustworthy hardware test signal.
  • Root cause analysis skills, including distinguishing a bad part from a bad assembly or design.

Nice To Haves

  • ROS/ROS 2, real-time control, actuator or motor testing, force-torque sensing, or locomotion and manipulation test design.
  • Experience validating learned or RL policies on hardware, or sim-to-real work in Isaac Sim/Lab, MuJoCo, or Gazebo.
  • NVIDIA or similar edge-compute deployment experience.
  • Safety engineering exposure, including functional safety, e-stop chains, ISO 10218, or ISO 13482.
  • Test fixture design experience, or experience working with technicians and machine shops to build fixtures.
  • Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, or custom telemetry pipelines for large test-log volumes.

Responsibilities

  • Build PR-triggered pipelines to schedule, run, and report hardware tests, including orchestration, device allocation, firmware flashing, power and reset control, data capture, and teardown.
  • Define hardware testing standards and grow regression infrastructure across motion control, locomotion, manipulation, perception, safety, and power.
  • Enable automated test coverage as new robot capabilities are developed and shipped.
  • Design and operate the HIL test farm, from single-actuator benches to full-robot test cells, with safe unattended operation and high uptime.
  • Create trusted per-PR test reports, dashboards, and alerts, and correlate simulation and hardware results to identify sim-to-real gaps.
  • Work with embedded, controls, ML, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to make testability a design requirement.
  • Align shared HIL strategy and tooling with the Integration & Testing team in London.
  • Use AI tools to build test platforms, triage failures, and analyze logs.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health coverage for US-based employees, including fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, virtual care, and employee assistance resources.
  • 23 days of accrued PTO, separate sick leave, and paid company holidays.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% employer match.
  • Stock options with meaningful upside as the company scales.
  • Free daily catered lunch, snacks, and drinks in-office.
  • Collaboration with engineers, researchers, and product experts in AI and robotics.
  • Freedom to influence the product and own key initiatives.
