About The Position

The Senior Robotics Controls Engineer leads the design, programming, and commissioning of FANUC robotic cells for industrial automation applications. This role owns the robot side of each project, from reach and cycle-time studies through production handoff, and guides other robotics technicians and engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or Controls Engineering, or a related field, required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of industrial robot programming and integration experience, including leading the robotics scope on projects.
  • Advanced FANUC programming experience.
  • Extensive experience with FANUC RoboGuide or comparable simulation software for reach, cycle-time, and offline programming work.
  • Hands-on experience configuring FANUC DCS or equivalent robot safety systems, and working knowledge of ANSI/RIA R15.06 and ISO 10218.
  • Experience with advanced robot options such as iRVision, line tracking, force sensing, or KAREL programming.
  • Proven experience integrating vision systems, sensors, and end-of-arm tooling in production cells.
  • Strong understanding of PLC-controlled automation and robot-to-PLC communication over EtherNet/IP, Profinet, or similar networks.
  • Ability to read and review electrical schematics and cell layout drawings.
  • Experience leading FATs, SATs, and on-site commissioning.
  • Experience mentoring technicians or junior engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa/Motoman, or Universal Robots is a plus.
  • FANUC certification or similar manufacturer training is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites for installation and startup.

Responsibilities

  • Lead robot programming and integration on automation projects, owning the robotic portion of the cell from concept through commissioning and production support.
  • Perform reach, cycle-time, and layout studies in FANUC RoboGuide or equivalent simulation software to select robots and validate cell designs before build.
  • Develop complex robot applications such as multi-robot cells, line tracking, vision-guided picking, and coordinated motion with external axes.
  • Configure and validate robot safety functions, including FANUC DCS (Dual Check Safety) zones, speed limits, and safety I/O, and support cell risk assessments.
  • Lead integration of vision and sensing systems such as FANUC iRVision, Cognex, and Keyence, including camera calibration and robot frame alignment.
  • Design the robot-to-PLC interface, including handshaking, fault handling, recovery routines, and HMI integration.
  • Provide input to end-of-arm tooling design and verify tooling performance during testing.
  • Create and maintain robot programming templates and standards for consistent program structure, naming, and error recovery.
  • Plan and lead robot testing during FATs, SATs, and on-site startup, and act as the primary robotics contact for customers during commissioning.
  • Provide robotics effort estimates and technical input during project planning.
  • Mentor robotics technicians and junior engineers through program reviews and hands-on field support.
  • Lead root-cause analysis on recurring robot faults, collisions, and downtime, and implement lasting fixes.
