Requirements

  • BS in Engineering from an ABET-accredited College or University
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina is required, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.
  • Proficiency in the design, preparation, and delivery of roadway design plans.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA, and NCDOT standards.
  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and AutoCAD.
  • Prior experience managing projects, including developing proposals and overseeing project timelines and budgets.
  • A background in mentoring or managing teams, with the ability to collaborate effectively and independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients and team members alike.

Nice To Haves

  • NCDOT design experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Take charge of the design and plan preparation for both highway and local road projects.
  • Lead internal quality reviews to ensure that plans meet the highest technical standards.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to junior engineers, helping them grow professionally.
  • Assist in preparing and negotiating project fee proposals.
  • Prepare design schedules, construction cost estimates, and deliver staged project submittals on time and within budget.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through presentations and regular communication.
  • Recognize scope changes and assist with contract negotiations when necessary.
  • Work closely with a talented team of engineers, technicians, and administrative staff to successfully execute transportation projects.
