About The Position

Alma Bank is currently looking to hire an experienced Senior Risk Officer to work out of our Corporate office in Long Island City, Queens. The Senior Risk Officer is responsible for the development and implementation of a bank-wide integrated Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program. This role provides administrative oversight of Internal Audit, Compliance, and BSA functions to ensure the Bank complies with all applicable laws and regulations. The objective is to enable efficient and effective governance of significant risks, allowing the Bank to balance risk and reward.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to senior management, and/or Boards of Directors.
  • Must possess sound judgment and have a unique ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 15 years of banking experience.
  • 10 years in risk, compliance or internal audit.
  • Possess strong leadership skills with prior managerial experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage organizational risk by conducting activities consistent with established goals, objectives, and policies.
  • Follows direction set by President & CEO, Board of Directors, Risk & Compliance and Audit Committees of the Board of Directors.
  • Reviews programs to ensure attainment of business plan for growth and profit consistent with the risk recognized by the Board of Directors.
  • Create process for assessing, identifying, monitoring, and mitigating business risk.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Bank complies with operating policies and procedures.
  • Conduct meetings with C-level executives and other senior management within the Bank that are assigned risk management responsibilities to discuss problems or explain procedural changes or practices necessary to mitigate risk.
  • Provide leadership and direction; establish work priorities to achieve risk goals and objectives.
  • Provide administration of risk activities; fostering the integration of risk management practices throughout the Bank.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive ERM governance framework.
  • Oversee the Information Security team and the Bank’s vendor management process.
  • Develop and revise risk management policies; ensure quantification of management’s risk appetite (policy limits and triggers.)
  • Prepare periodic reporting to senior management and the Board of Directors to include the Risk Dashboard, Executive Scorecard, Risk Profile and Narrative Summary.
  • Collaborate and work with policy administrator and counsel to ensure that policies are in compliance with banking laws, regulations, and internal policies and procedures. Ensure new policies and policy change are effected timely to include the introduction of new products, revised work flow (procedures), revisions to laws, rules or regulations which are applicable to the Bank.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with regulators, providing quarterly updates as required.
  • As needed, attend Board meetings and serve on management committees as required.
