About The Position

Matrix Research is seeking an experienced Senior RF Systems and Business Development Engineer to lead technical hardware design and drive strategic growth for our growing business in Dayton, Ohio. This role bridges hands-on RF hardware development and strategic customer capture, advancing state-of-the-art radar, electronic warfare (EW), and software-defined radio (SDR) platforms while expanding impact across defense and commercial partners. The position involves approximately 60% lab work, leading architecture, schematic design, bench testing, and integration of high-performance RF hardware and SDR subsystems with digital and FPGA engineers. The remaining 40% involves technical marketing, customer engagement, and capture initiatives across DoD, defense prime, and commercial customer bases, translating complex hardware capabilities into winning proposals, white papers, and novel system concepts.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive, hands-on engineering experience in RF hardware design, board-level development, and systems integration.
  • Deep technical expertise in one or more core domains: radar systems, electronic warfare (EW), software-defined radios (SDRs), or RF front-end architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface RF subsystems with digital hardware, high-speed converters, and FPGA-based processing platforms.
  • Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation for characterization, troubleshooting, and verification (e.g., vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, signal generators).
  • Proven track record contributing to technical business development, capture management, concept white papers, and competitive proposal authoring (e.g., BAAs, SBIR/STTR topics, or prime contractor RFPs).
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a closely related technical field.
  • U.S. citizenship capable of obtaining and maintaining a U.S. DoD security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) or related field.
  • Familiarity with simulation and modeling tools (e.g., Keysight ADS, Cadence/AWR Microwave Office, MATLAB).
  • Experience engaging technical leads at DoD research laboratories (e.g., AFRL, ONR, DARPA) or major defense prime contractors.
  • An active U.S. DoD security clearance (Secret or Top Secret).

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture, schematic design, bench testing, and integration of high-performance RF hardware and SDR subsystems.
  • Collaborate with digital and FPGA engineers.
  • Lead technical marketing, customer engagement, and capture initiatives.
  • Translate complex hardware capabilities into winning proposals, white papers, and novel system concepts.
