About The Position

Matrix Research is seeking an experienced Senior RF Systems and Business Development Engineer to lead technical hardware design and support strategic growth in Dayton, Ohio. The position bridges hands-on RF hardware development with customer capture, advancing radar, electronic warfare (EW), and software-defined radio (SDR) platforms for defense and commercial partners. Approximately 60% of the role involves working primarily in the lab with multidisciplinary teams to lead architecture, schematic design, bench testing, and integration of high-performance RF hardware and SDR subsystems alongside digital and FPGA engineers. Approximately 40% involves technical marketing, customer engagement, and capture initiatives across Department of Defense, defense prime contractor, and commercial customers. The role translates complex hardware capabilities into proposals, white papers, and new system concepts. Matrix Research is an employee-owned small business developing radar, radio frequency, and sensor exploitation technologies. Its programs span basic research through demonstration, test and evaluation, and low-rate production of advanced sensing systems, subsystems, and components.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of progressive, hands-on engineering experience in RF hardware design, board-level development, and systems integration.
  • Deep technical expertise in one or more of radar systems, electronic warfare, software-defined radios, or RF front-end architecture.
  • Ability to interface RF subsystems with digital hardware, high-speed converters, and FPGA-based processing platforms.
  • Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation for characterization, troubleshooting, and verification, such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, and signal generators.
  • A proven track record contributing to technical business development, capture management, concept white papers, and competitive proposal authoring, such as BAAs, SBIR/STTR topics, or prime contractor RFPs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical field.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Familiarity with simulation and modeling tools such as Keysight ADS, Cadence/AWR Microwave Office, or MATLAB.
  • Experience engaging technical leads at DoD research laboratories such as AFRL, ONR, or DARPA, or at major defense prime contractors.
  • Active U.S. DoD security clearance at the Secret or Top Secret level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture, schematic design, bench testing, and integration of high-performance RF hardware and SDR subsystems.
  • Work with digital and FPGA engineers to integrate RF subsystems with digital hardware, high-speed converters, and FPGA-based processing platforms.
  • Lead technical marketing, customer engagement, and capture initiatives across DoD, defense prime contractor, and commercial customer bases.
  • Translate hardware capabilities into competitive proposals, concept white papers, and novel system concepts.
  • Contribute to capture management and proposal authoring for opportunities such as BAAs, SBIR/STTR topics, and prime contractor RFPs.
  • Characterize, troubleshoot, and verify RF hardware using laboratory instrumentation.
