We are looking for a Senior RF Engineer to join our ground-based radar electronics team in Fullerton, CA, supporting Battlefield Radar (BFR) products for both domestic and international programs. In this role, the engineer will collaborate closely with colleagues across various experience levels. This position offers the opportunity to apply fundamental scientific and technological expertise to address complex yet fundamental challenges in supporting the production of ground-based radar systems. The role will report directly to the Radar, C2, and Platform Integration section within the Airborne Radar Electronics Design department.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
  • A minimum of 5 years of related technical experience in RF/microwave troubleshooting and analysis.
  • Experience with RF and mixed signal performance parameters, such as average and peak power, linearity, noise, dynamic range, etc., as well as familiarity with the test setups.
  • Experience in software tools including: Keysight ADS, National Instruments AWR Microwave Office, Sonnet EM, Ansys HFSS, AutoCAD or comparable.
  • Experience in lab equipment including Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, and Power Meters.
  • Experience in analysis of radar power system, RF subsystems, power conversion electronics, analog circuit and digital hardware.
  • Experience in analysis, development, troubleshooting, and testing of radar and RF hardware.
  • Experience defining and generating qualification test requirements, acceptance test requirements, and acceptance test procedures.
  • Experience developing and documenting wiring harness designs, ensuring proper routing, shielding, and integration within complex systems.
  • Experience performing design reviews and provide feedback related to wiring and connector specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with military standards (e.g., MIL-DTL-38999, workmanship standard IPC/WHMA-A-620) and industry best practices.
  • An active & transferable US security clearance.
  • US citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with hardware design, such as RF sub-modules, digital/analog/mixed signal circuits, or component test fixtures, is a plus.
  • Experience in radar system testing.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a willingness to address challenges ranging from simple to complex and a commitment to pursuing critical issues until effective solutions are found.
  • A systematic mindset combined with creativity to explore innovative approaches for solving fundamental design problems that may have been long overlooked.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage strong engineering expertise to address a wide range of challenges, including but not limited to radar link budgets, signal integrity, noise and interference.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during daily operations using fundamental knowledge of mathematics and physics.
  • Use sound judgment and prioritize tasks effectively to determine the best approach for problem-solving, ensuring seamless production processes.
  • Utilize test equipment, such as Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), spectrum analyzers, power meters and oscilloscopes to diagnose and resolve RF and electrical issues.
  • Employ simulation tools, including HFSS, AWR/ADS, SystemVue, and LTSpice, to perform analytical evaluations when required.
  • Work in a dynamic and hands-on environment where problem-solving skills and technical judgement will play a vital role in maintaining and optimizing production efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-discipline teams, including systems engineering, mechanical engineering, software, mission assurance, and program management.
  • Engage in daily discussions with the production facility.
  • Give weekly presentations to senior leadership.
  • Work on site in Fullerton CA full-time.
  • Occasional travel to suppliers, integration events and customer sites including international locations (up to 25%).
