Senior RF/EMI/TEMPEST Engineer

MAG AerospaceAtlanta, GA
Onsite

About The Position

At MAG, we provide and enable real-time situational awareness to help our customers make the world smaller and safer. We are laser focused on serving our customers by providing technical expertise, operational excellence, and flawless execution. Our success is due entirely to the high caliber of employees we recruit, hire, and retain. At MAG, we look for individuals who thrive in a high-performance environment where challenges are the norm and success is expected. The Senior RF / EMI / TEMPEST Engineer is the technical authority for radio frequency (RF), electromagnetic interference and compatibility (EMI/EMC), TEMPEST and emission security (EMSEC), and high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) survivability across MAG Aerospace's U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) command and control portfolio: mobile command platforms, fixed and survivable C2 facilities and SCIFs, and communications and terminal programs. The mobile C2 platform is the current anchor, and the same competency applies to fixed-facility TEMPEST and ICD 705 accreditation, antenna and terminal integration, and survivability across the portfolio. The engineer owns antenna integration, the electromagnetic survivability basis, and the RED and BLACK separation and emanation security for the systems in scope, on the mobile platform and at fixed C2 operations spaces and SCIFs as the portfolio requires. Must Be US Citizen

Requirements

  • Expert-level RF engineering across HF through SATCOM bands, including antenna integration and co-site interference management.
  • Wideband HF radio integration (Automatic Link Establishment, NVIS, and data waveforms) and receive-only VLF/LF subsystem integration.
  • Working command of TEMPEST and emission security (EMSEC), RED and BLACK separation, and ICD 705 emanation requirements.
  • Working command of MIL-STD-188-125 (HEMP) and MIL-STD-461 (EMI/EMC), including shielded enclosures, filtered penetrations, and shielding-effectiveness verification.
  • Hands-on RF and EMI test instrumentation (spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, EMI receivers) and pre-compliance test design.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of RF and EMI engineering experience, including direct experience with TEMPEST or EMSEC and with EMI and EMC compliance, shielding, or HEMP work.
  • Must hold, or be able to obtain and maintain, a U.S. Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information access (TS/SCI).
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the Certified TEMPEST Technical Authority (CTTA) process.
  • Direct experience with HEMP qualification or MIL-STD-188-125 hardened programs.
  • Experience with TEMPEST and ICD 705 accreditation of fixed sensitive compartmented information facilities and command and control facilities.
  • Experience with vehicle antenna integration and tactical SATCOM and radio systems.
  • Familiarity with HF data and ALE standards (MIL-STD-188-110, MIL-STD-188-141, STANAG 5066).
  • Prior U.S. military service, or direct experience supporting U.S. military operations.
  • An active or current Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) clearance.
  • Experience supporting nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3), strategic communications, or continuity-of-operations programs.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead antenna selection, placement, and integration on the vehicle for cellular, commercial SATCOM, military SATCOM and MUOS, and HF bands, and manage co-site interference, antenna patterns, and a universal antenna interface across vehicle types.
  • Integrate and sustain the platform's wideband HF (NVIS and Automatic Link Establishment) and receive-only VLF/LF subsystems, including antenna and coupler integration.
  • Own co-site interference management and RF isolation across the integrated platform.
  • Define and verify RED and BLACK separation and emission security (TEMPEST/EMSEC) for the platform consistent with ICD 705 and applicable national TEMPEST criteria.
  • Own the platform's HEMP survivability to MIL-STD-188-125-2, including shielding effectiveness and filtered points of entry for power, RF, and fiber.
  • Conduct EMI and EMC analysis and pre-compliance testing to MIL-STD-461, and design and operate the RF and EMI pre-compliance bench.
  • Architect the RF chain by band, partition active elements relative to the shielded boundary, and specify radiators, couplers, cabling, and filtering.
  • Support fixed C2 operations space and SCIF TEMPEST and ICD 705 emanation requirements as the portfolio extends beyond the vehicle.
  • Lead RF, TEMPEST, and EMI test and verification, and support program technical reviews.
