Senior RF Design Engineer

RTX•Tucson, AZ
•$86,800 - $165,200•Onsite

About The Position

The Effector RF Design Department designs RF and microwave hardware, including transmitters, receivers, and exciters, and performs design and test activities from preliminary design through integration. Its products support radar and datalink applications on tactical missile programs. This role involves designing hardware for challenging mechanical constraints and extreme environments and is based onsite in Tucson, Arizona. The Senior RF Design Engineer designs and develops transmitters, receivers, or exciters and RF or mixed-signal circuit card assemblies. The engineer works in a laboratory on component characterization, module verification, and integration; tests and handles sensitive RF hardware; performs schematic capture and RF routing; and partners with interdisciplinary teams such as power, digital, and mechanical engineering. An active, transferable U.S. government security clearance is required before starting, and the candidate must be a U.S. citizen. The role also requires the ability to obtain interim clearance before starting and special program access afterward.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • At least five years of prior relevant experience, which may include RF design and fabrication, RF testing and troubleshooting, or simulation of RF products.
  • Experience with Mentor DX Designer or equivalent, HFSS or equivalent, SystemVue/Genesys or equivalent, or ADS or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain an interim U.S. government-issued security clearance before the start date, with ability to obtain special program access after start.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance required prior to start date; U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Mentorship or apprenticeship experience.
  • Technical oversight responsibilities for less-senior engineers.
  • Experience working across domains on complex projects.
  • Architecting and requirements definition for complex RF products.
  • Technical project leadership, including cost and schedule experience.
  • EVMS or CAM experience.
  • Ability to prepare documentation with minimal oversight.
  • Background in designing for manufacturability, producibility, and cost constraints, including yield and margin analysis.
  • Technical background in cascade analysis or frequency planning.
  • Filter design and fabrication experience.
  • Circuit card assembly design and fabrication experience.
  • Experience testing or designing RF hybrid (chip and wire) technologies.
  • High-speed data converter testing or characterization experience.
  • High-power RF design or test experience.
  • Scripting experience with Matlab or Python.
  • Some front-line leadership experience.
