About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a full-time Sr. Respiratory Therapist. This primary assignment will be on day shift within the Respiratory Specialty Comprehensive Care Unit (RSCCU) and Burn Treatment Center. The role involves directing, organizing, reviewing, and coordinating the work of respiratory therapists and technicians within a specific area of assignment, as well as providing respiratory care as required. Responsibilities include the delivery of respiratory care, such as ventilation, medical gas therapy, medicated aerosol therapy, pulmonary hygiene, blood gas sampling and analysis, non-invasive oxygen and carbon dioxide monitoring, and supervising the implementation of respiratory care in patient care units. The position also provides critical care expertise, education, routine shift staffing, and shift operations relief. Selected candidates may be eligible for a $10,000 sign-on incentive and an additional advanced respiratory care services differential up to $5,000.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in a health related science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is required.
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care or National Society for Cardiopulmonary Technology and licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of Iowa is required.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Respiratory Care practice is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Possess a current State of Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
  • Possess a current CPR certification card.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 to 5 years of recent critical care experience.
  • Proficient in computer software applications.
  • Adult Critical Care Respiratory Care Specialist (RRT-ACCS)
  • Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialist (RRT-NPS)

Responsibilities

  • Institutes & Provides All Forms of CPAP & BiPAP.
  • Delivers Medical Gas Therapy.
  • Provides Safe Delivery of Medicated Aerosol & General Therapies.
  • Provides Pulmonary Hygiene.
  • Performs Blood Gas Sampling & Analysis.
  • Provides Non-Invasive Monitoring.
  • Participates in the Orientation/Education Activities.
  • Assist in the Training of Students.
  • Adheres to Hospital Epidemiological Practices.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
