About The Position

This position is responsible for providing support to residents within the Sarah's Place program. Key accountabilities include administrative tasks, assisting with cleaning and organizing common areas, providing oversight to participant chores, and being available on-call to offer guidance and support to residents. The role involves interacting with residents, staff, volunteers, and external justice services. The position requires adherence to The Salvation Army's mission, vision, and values, as well as upholding a professional code of conduct. The working environment is within the Sarah's Place program, involving common areas and office space, with potential exposure to verbal abuse and emotionally distressing situations. The role requires manual record-keeping and may involve debriefing and consultation due to the nature of the information shared by program participants.

Requirements

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of at least one academic year.
  • Must be a senior resident of Sarah's Place for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Seeking completion of Manitoba Food Handers Certification.
  • Emergency First Aid & CPR.
  • Non-Violence Crisis Intervention.
  • Mental Health First Aid Certification.
  • At least one year of experience is required as a minimum for this position.
  • Experience of First Nations people's unique gifts as well as challenges faced such as colonization, racism and oppression and barriers to accessing systems and resources.
  • Experience as a woman having involvement in the criminal justice system.
  • Experience of tough issues such as homelessness, health concerns, unemployment, exploitation and human trafficking.
  • Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture and values.
  • Commitment to seek to maintain a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors, and staff members.
  • Required to uphold all Sarah’s Place rules and regulations.
  • Must be in good standing within your own recovery and healing journey.

Responsibilities

  • Create and revise documents to support the programs’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Complete administration tasks as required by Sarah's Place staff.
  • Select and complete items from cleaning and organizing list provided.
  • Provide oversight to participant chores by instructing, teaching, encouraging, and coaching participants in how to do their assigned chores and monitor and document their completion according to policy and procedure.
  • Provide advice, guidance and support to residents when contacted for assistance.
  • Act as the first contact for all situations not requiring immediate 911 assistance.
  • Log and report all incidents to staff.
  • Follow all Sarah's' Place organizational policies and procedures.
