About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer to join their team in California. This role involves performing a wide variety of professional engineering work, either in a field or office setting. The Resident Engineer is responsible for reviewing project progress to ensure compliance with contract documents, including monitoring materials and methods, inspecting finished products, and ensuring appropriate measurements and payments are made. They will also be responsible for completing all project documentation according to departmental policies and procedures, and proactively reviewing contract documents to identify and prepare any necessary change orders to resolve conflicts or recommend improvements.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 15 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
  • At least 5 years working as a Resident Engineer on Caltrans Highway improvement projects of similar size and complexity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering-related field (e.g. Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, etc.).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California.
  • Experience as a Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, or Project Manager on a State Highway System project of at least $30 million.
  • Prior experience with construction/operations on a State Highway.
  • A demonstrated ability to read and completely understand contract documents.
  • A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g. Caltrans).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safety of Construction Management employees, State employees, and Contractor’s employees, as well as the traveling public by observing the contractor’s operations and traffic conditions, making recommendations, and taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Review contractor operations for compliance with CAL OSHA regulations.
  • Provides directions to staff to ensure complete, accurate, and timely contract records, pertaining to construction progress, job expenditures, budget programs, and work order balances, are maintained in accordance with the State and Federal regulations and laws.
  • Plans, reviews and assigns work of subordinate field or construction field office personnel.
  • Reviews construction processes and engineering layouts.
  • Reviews project activities with client and contractor’s field supervision resolving disputes and other daily issues.
  • Oversees materials testing activities.
  • Reviews of daily inspection reports and other project documentation.
  • Attends and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to Arcadis’ Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
