Data & Society is seeking a Senior Researcher, AI Civics who is a subject-matter expert to serve as a lead contributor on an ambitious, two-year program focused on civic action and community control over AI. This role will primarily utilize participatory methods, especially participatory action research, to foster inter-organizational partnerships with organizations in K-12 education, labor, faith, or advocacy. The program will involve co-creating toolkits and training resources with anchor partners, using a train-the-trainer model, and building a national civic coalition for democratic accountability over AI. This position also supports Data & Society’s strategic priority of building network power. The Senior Researcher will execute mission-critical co-design and participatory research projects within this program. The position reports to the Program Director, is fully remote, and will run from September 2026 to May 31, 2028.
