About The Position

NYU Grossman School of Medicine is a leading medical institution committed to improving the human condition through education, research, and patient care. The Department of Population Health (DPH) is a dynamic environment focused on health equity, with faculty across various disciplines. The Health Evaluation and Analytics Lab (HEAL) is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to lead quantitative research on substance use disorder, mental health, and health policy. This role involves using large administrative and Medicaid claims data to evaluate programs and policies, with a focus on advanced statistics, causal inference, and quasi-experimental methods. The successful candidate will contribute to NIH-funded studies, lead analytic teams, collaborate on grant development, and publish research.

Requirements

  • PhD and 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific leadership for the design and execution of quantitative research projects focused on substance use disorder, mental health, and health policy.
  • Develop and implement rigorous analytic plans using advanced quantitative methods, including advanced statistics, causal inference, and quasi-experimental methods.
  • Supervise and mentor data analysts and research staff working with large administrative, claims, and other secondary datasets.
  • Oversee analytic activities across multiple concurrent studies within a multi-grant research portfolio.
  • Collaborate with faculty investigators and external partners, including government agencies, healthcare providers, and community-based organizations, on study design, interpretation, and dissemination.
  • Lead or contribute substantively to grant proposals, including study design, analytic plans, and preliminary analyses.
  • Lead or co-lead manuscript development for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to reports, presentations, and other dissemination products.
  • Ensure high standards for data management, reproducibility, documentation, and research integrity.
