About The Position

The Wainger Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and innovative Senior Scientist to lead high-impact translational research at the intersection of neurodegenerative diseases, stem cell biology, functional genomics, and computational biology. The successful candidate will leverage human postmortem tissue analyses, patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) neuron models, and advanced bioinformatics/multi-omic pipelines to systematically discover, prioritize, validate, and develop novel therapeutic targets. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to work within a deeply translational environment closely aligned with the Healey Center for ALS at MGH, Broad Institute, and Harvard Medical School. Independently carries out a broad range of technically advanced research activities and procedures; conceives of and designs experiments, evaluates conclusions, and has complete latitude to modify or devise methods and techniques as necessary to achieve desired results; may supervise technical and administrative elements of research unit.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Related Field of Study required
  • Experience in an academic or laboratory research setting 5-7 years required.
  • Proficiency in supply chain and vendor management.
  • Ability to identify problems and troubleshoot solutions.
  • Well-versed in laboratory standards and practices.
  • Good organizational skills, detail-oriented.
  • Sound degree of computer literacy.
  • Ability to methodically record data.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Broad knowledge of scientific principles, biological structures, and laboratory techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a skilled scientific specialist for the research unit or for a specific research project.
  • Conducts broad range of experiments or computational analyses involving advanced technology/strategies; conceives of the objective of research studies and designs experimental protocols/computational analyses to achieve the objectives; generates, analyzes and evaluates experimental data; interprets the results of experiments/computational analyses.
  • Writes and edits material for publication; may present papers or appear as principal or secondary author in publications.
  • Provides direct supervision to technical and support personnel as assigned.
  • Provides instruction in laboratory or computational techniques and methodology to students and postdoctoral fellows.
