About The Position

The University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology seeks a Senior Research Scientist in Pittsburgh, PA. Duties include: (i) independently leading scientific research projects and supervising trainees and research activities; (ii) High-level molecular biology, including sequencing and sample/library preparation; (iii) working with murine models of immune dysregulation, including asthma, neuroinflammation, autoinflammation, infection, and cardiovascular disease; (iv) immune cells functional assays; (v) cloning and transfection; and (vi) screening primary patient cells for disease-causing mutations.

Requirements

  • PhD degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Biology, Immunology or a related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in a related position
  • Three (3) years working with Human immunology research, including primary human immune cell isolation, culture, stimulation, gene editing, and functional analysis
  • Three (3) years working with Murine models of inflammation, allergy, and atherogenesis, including designing and conducting in vivo experiments and processing a wide range of tissues (aorta, lungs, GI, skin) for immunologic analysis, histological analysis, and specialized staining (i.e. aortic plaque staining)
  • Three (3) years working with Multiparameter flow cytometry, including experimental design, panel development, compensation, gating strategies, and data analysis
  • Three (3) years working with Molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, ddPCR, RNA-seq
  • Three (3) years working with Gene-expression manipulation using lentiviral systems, including viral particles production and transduction for stable knockdown, knockout, or overexpression
  • Three (3) years working with Functional in vitro assays with mammalian cell lines, including evaluation of cell activation, viability, proliferation, cytokine production, etc
  • Three (3) years working with handling, shaving, and injecting (IV, IP, intradermal) mice and processing broad range of tissues
