About The Position

The National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) at The University of Mississippi is seeking to fill an immediate opening for a Senior Research Scientist II. This role requires an individual with an international reputation for conducting world-class basic and applied research in cutting-edge areas, with recognized expertise in fluid dynamics (subsonic to hypersonic flow regimes), aeroacoustics, design of experiments, signal processing, and data reduction. The candidate is expected to be among the top researchers globally in several of these fields. The position also involves demonstrating leadership in professional technical societies and government advisory boards, active participation in international symposia, and a minimum of 15 years of experience leading multidisciplinary research and development groups. This includes a proven track record in recruiting, leading, developing, evaluating, and mentoring research staff and students, as well as maintaining key sponsor relationships to secure research funding and identify new business opportunities. Program management functions, including employee administration and research task administration from proposals to deliverables, are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the practice of modern fluid-mechanics measurements (e.g. PIV, LDV, LDA, DIC, PLIF, Shack-Hartmann, hot wire arrays, microphone arrays, Kulites, etc.).
  • Demonstrated familiarity with correlation-based analytical methods (e.g. wavenumber-frequency decomposition, POD, wave-packet analysis, array processing).
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Possession of a Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Science, Applied Physics, or a closely related field.
