About The Position

Works independently in research involving modern biological techniques to investigate SALL4 function in normal and cancer cells. This role requires extensive experience in cell culture and animal studies, and the ability to conduct experiments such as cellular assays, PCR, qRT-PCR, Western blotting, and co-immunoprecipitation in accordance with established guidelines. Skilled animal handling and experiences such as breeding, record keeping, tail vein injection, xenotransplants, and drug treatments are also needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study required.
  • 3+ years of professional research experience required.
  • Extensive (over 15 years) research laboratory experience in cell culture and animal studies.
  • Skilled in animal studies such as breeding, record keeping, tail vein injection, xenotransplants, drug treatments.
  • Extensive cell culture techniques, including isolation of primary cell cultures from animal and human tissues.
  • Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise new lab members.
  • Excellent organizational and observation skills; detail-oriented.
  • Strong analytical skills and conceptual thinking.
  • Patience and a spirit of cooperation are necessary.
  • Ability to constructively interact with members of a research team to pursue scientific goals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and set deadlines.
  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Works independently in research involving modern biological techniques to investigate SALL4 function in normal and cancer cells.
  • Conducts experiments such as cellular assays, PCR, qRT-PCR, Western blotting and co-immunoprecipitation in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Performs skilled animal handling and experiences such as breeding, record keeping, tail vein injection, xenotransplants, drug treatments.
  • Independently performs routine and non-routine molecular and biological experiments, including RNA and protein extractions; gel electrophoresis; blotting and hybridization techniques; cell fixation and basic immunohistochemistry; and cell transfection/infection.
  • Records, organizes, and analyzes data derived from experiments.
  • Presents data to fellow lab members and the principal investigator in a regular and timely fashion.
  • Assists in preparing presentations and written articles for publication.
  • Processes data derived from experiments at lab meetings.
  • Directly supervises and trains incoming Research Assistants and students.
  • Coordinates lab orientation and techniques with new fellows when needed.
  • In collaboration with PI, develops and implements new research protocols, including designing data collection systems and obtaining institutional review board approval.
  • In collaboration with PI, prepares and may present certain portions of presentations, in addition to preparing articles for publication.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Coordinates efforts with other scientists, technicians, and students.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and respect for subject’s rights and individual needs.
  • Works independently and displays initiative to introduce innovations to research study.
