Collins Aerospace, Landing Systems, Carbon Engineering is looking for an Senior Manager, to manage the Carbon R&D Department. This is an exciting and critical position that requires strong communication, technical and project management skills with a high-level of engagement and vision. The position reports directly to the Director of Carbon Engineering and will interface with personnel from the production floor to the Landing Systems Executive management team.
Requirements
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of Engineering departmental supervision.
- Experience with TRL maturation and technology roadmaps
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong networking experience to marshal resources
- Experience managing multiple aspects of multiple R&D projects, including the development and management of program plans, schedules and budgets, while maintaining strong technical involvement with each project.
Nice To Haves
- MS/PhD in Chemical, Ceramics, Aerospace, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering
- Aerospace Industry experience, or experience from other highly regulated industries.
- Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma and formal root cause and corrective action (RCCA) experience.
- AI and/or data analytics experience
- High-temperature composite development and manufacturing experience
- SAP/MES transactional experience
- Working knowledge of advanced material characterization tools/techniques.
Responsibilities
- Model a high level of compliance expectations (export, ethics, EH&S, budgets, etc.).
- Utilize input from multiple stakeholders to guide the R&D team’s activities.
- Guide team to establish technology development milestones, drive completion to schedules and provide all necessary validation data and documentation.
- Drive vision for project creation that will support near-term and long-term business needs.
- Mentor and develop department employees and build a strong succession plan.
- Maintain a high level drive for results and self-accountability within the group, while maintaining a people-centric culture.
- Ability to deal with high levels of technical complexity and ambiguity associated with tribological applications.
- Balance speed of development with TRL maturation needs
