About The Position

Gibson Dunn is a leading global law firm, advising clients on significant transactions and disputes. The firm’s work is distinguished by a unique combination of precision and vision. The Research and Information Management (RIM) Department provides research assistance to the Firm’s partners and associates and others within the Firm. The RIM Department also oversees all research related subscriptions and online research resources; therefore, the candidate must be very flexible and highly committed to quality, customer service, teamwork and supporting Firm and department goals in a fast-paced environment. Based in New York or Washington D.C., the Senior Research Analyst will be responsible for providing comprehensive research services to all attorneys within the firm. This role involves conducting in-depth legal and business research across all the firm’s practice areas and supporting the firm's AI initiatives. The position requires a strong understanding of research databases as well as excellent communication and analytical skills. The candidate should possess a keen interest in innovation and technology, and an ability to learn new legal and business research platforms. The role reports to the Litigation Research Manager.

Requirements

  • Master’s in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent, or JD preferred.
  • A minimum of six to eight years of related experience providing research services in a law firm or professional services organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of professional library science and research techniques using various resources required.
  • Proficient in the use of various legal research databases such as Lexis+, Westlaw Precision, CoCounsel, Bloomberg Law, VitalLaw, Lex Machina, Deal Point Data Newsdesk, Manazma, and other related resources.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting corporate practice groups such as M&A, capital markets, PE or securities preferred.
  • Experience utilizing Quest as a centralized ticketing system for incoming research requests a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting in-depth legal research across all practice groups for firm attorneys, including complex and multijurisdictional requests requiring advanced research strategy and analytical judgment.
  • Independently managing research assignments, preparing comprehensive analysis of results and delivery in a timely manner.
  • Contribution to training curriculum development and delivery for RIM Analysts, and assisting with onboarding, orientation and training for attorneys and staff on research resources.
  • Utilizing GenAI tools and emerging technologies to enhance research quality, streamlining workflows and delivering analytical results.
  • Conducting client development research support, including background checks and competitive intelligence on current or potential clients and markets.
  • Leading evaluation of new resources, including conducting resource trials, assessments and making recommendations to RIM leadership.
  • Remaining current on research techniques and available resources relevant to providing high quality research and information services.
  • Participating in rotating weekend coverage.
