Reliability Engineer 181585

CTI Consulting•Westlake, OH

About The Position

The Senior Reliability Engineer works within the Enterprise Infrastructure Reliability Engineering group, combining infrastructure automation and reliability engineering to deliver scalable, highly available, and resilient services. The group applies resiliency engineering, automation, observability, and chaos testing, and builds reliability into its ecosystem using standards and infrastructure code. The role contributes to enterprise backup and recovery capabilities, including automating recovery workflows, enabling recovery in alternate datacenters, and testing recovery processes. It also develops scalable monitoring and health signals for container platform environments, strengthens operational processes with support and incident management teams, and works with cloud service provider product teams to improve Kubernetes service reliability. The engineer anticipates and prioritizes client and partner needs, serving as their voice and guiding team execution. The position involves production-scale cloud and on-premises storage workloads, Kubernetes cluster management, distributed systems, software development, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and logging, monitoring, and alerting. The work spans public and private cloud environments and supports critically important enterprise applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technology-related field such as Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Production experience running cloud and on-premises storage workloads at scale.
  • Experience managing and maintaining Kubernetes clusters on EKS, AKS, and RKS.
  • Demonstrated drive for continuous improvement and interest in tackling complex problems.
  • Experience managing and interpreting large datasets using query languages and visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Software development experience with Python, NodeJS, or Java, with a focus on SDLC and automation.
  • 5–7 years of hands-on experience deploying and/or supporting highly distributed multi-tiered systems at scale.
  • Experience building and deploying Docker images, including Docker Compose.
  • Hands-on experience with Jenkins Core, including authoring and maintaining declarative CI/CD pipelines and libraries.
  • Experience with distributed version control systems; Git preferred.
  • Experience crafting and maintaining logging, monitoring, and alerting capabilities using tools such as Datadog and Splunk.
  • Practical experience building cloud-hosted and cloud-native applications for the enterprise.
  • Deep understanding of AWS and Azure services that support reliability, observability, and automation/orchestration.
  • Experience in incident/crisis management and supporting critically important applications.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, OpenTelemetry, or Datadog.
  • Ability to automate with scripting languages such as Python and shell scripting.
  • Experience managing systems using infrastructure-as-code tools such as IAM, ARM, Terraform, or Chef.
  • Comfort working in both public and private cloud environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Go, Angular, Python, JavaScript, AWS, RESTful services, Ruby, MVC, Jenkins CI/CD, or configuration automation tools such as Chef and Ansible.
  • Experience with Bootstrap, HTML/CSS, shell scripting, messaging frameworks such as MQ, service-oriented or microservice architectures, OpenStack, or relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with backup and recovery capabilities, including recovery automation, recovery into alternate datacenters, and data protection design.

Responsibilities

  • Build reliability into the infrastructure ecosystem using resiliency engineering, automation, observability, and chaos testing.
  • Contribute to enterprise backup and recovery capabilities, including automating recovery workflows, enabling recovery in alternate datacenters, and testing recovery processes.
  • Craft scalable solutions and automate monitoring to establish health signals for container platform environments.
  • Strengthen operational processes in collaboration with cloud ecosystem support and incident management teams.
  • Work with cloud service provider product teams to drive ongoing reliability improvements in Kubernetes service offerings.
  • Anticipate, discover, and prioritize client and partner needs; represent those needs and guide team execution.
  • Deploy and support highly distributed, multi-tiered systems at scale.
  • Manage and maintain Kubernetes clusters on EKS, AKS, and RKS.
  • Build and deploy Docker images, including Docker Compose configurations.
  • Author and maintain declarative Jenkins CI/CD pipelines and libraries.
  • Craft and maintain logging, monitoring, and alerting capabilities.
  • Use automation and infrastructure-as-code tools to manage systems.
  • Advance enterprise resiliency through improved recovery capabilities, reduced recovery time, rehoused recovery into new datacenters, and data protection design.
