Senior Regulatory Test Engineer

Ubiquiti•Draper, UT

About The Position

The Senior Regulatory Test Engineer leads the evaluation of Ubiquiti products against worldwide EMI, EMC, RF, safety, and cybersecurity regulatory requirements. The role develops test strategies and detailed test plans, interprets changing standards, organizes complex test programs, and drives technical alignment across engineering, compliance, product, and external laboratory partners. It operates with senior-level judgment, mentors other test engineers, and turns prior testing experience and evolving requirements into repeatable internal practices and policies. The position supports Ubiquiti product lines including wireless access points, gateways, routing products, and related network equipment. It includes hands-on and oversight responsibilities for EMC and RF testing, troubleshooting, impact assessments, regression testing, technical documentation, and support for ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
  • 5+ years of hands-on regulatory, EMC, RF, safety, or wireless compliance testing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to create test plans, define test coverage, organize complex test programs, and make sound technical decisions with limited supervision.
  • Strong working knowledge of EMC and RF test instrumentation, including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, antennas, coupling clamps, field probes, ESD simulators, power supplies, and product monitoring tools.
  • Experience with EMC test automation and laboratory software such as EMC32, Nexio, BAT-EMC, Keysight tools, or similar systems.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory standards, apply them to new product architectures, and translate requirements into practical internal test procedures and policies.
  • Hands-on experience debugging radiated and conducted emissions, immunity, wireless performance, product configuration, and communication monitoring issues.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital electronics, electromagnetic theory as applied to EMC testing, and common communication interfaces such as Ethernet, USB, CAN, LIN, and wireless protocols.
  • Experience generating and reviewing detailed EMC, RF, or safety test reports and technical documentation suitable for certification bodies, external labs, and internal audits.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, written communication, and cross-functional leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple programs and aggressive delivery targets.
  • Self-managed, results-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with ambiguous technical and regulatory questions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preferably involving wireless, Wi-Fi, networking, IoT, or communications products.
  • Understanding of ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation, quality systems, and test method validation.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity regulatory requirements and emerging product security obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead EMI, EMC, RF, safety, and cybersecurity test planning for Ubiquiti product lines, including wireless access points, gateways, routing products, and related network equipment.
  • Create comprehensive test plans and readiness checklists defining standards, configurations, modes of operation, sample requirements, instrumentation, acceptance criteria, and schedule dependencies.
  • Perform and oversee EMC and RF testing under FCC, ISED, EU, and other global requirements using applicable standards and regulatory guidance.
  • Review, analyze, and interpret test data; identify compliance risks; and communicate recommendations to engineering, product, operations, and certification teams.
  • Develop, validate, and improve EMC and RF test setups for emissions and immunity.
  • Develop internal test policies, laboratory procedures, troubleshooting guides, and decision criteria based on product experience and new or revised standards.
  • Assess product changes for EMC, RF, safety, and cybersecurity impacts; determine regression testing needs; and document technical rationale for homologation and regulatory approvals.
  • Lead EMC and RF troubleshooting, including root-cause analysis for radiated and conducted emissions, immunity failures, and configuration-related test issues.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians on test methods, instrumentation, report quality, laboratory discipline, and regulatory interpretation; review technical work for completeness and accuracy.
  • Coordinate test schedules, equipment readiness, sample availability, external laboratory engagement, and issue escalation to support launch timelines while maintaining compliance quality.
  • Generate and approve detailed test reports, technical justifications, and supporting documentation for internal records, certification submissions, and compliance audits.
  • Support ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation activities, including method validation, equipment control, record quality, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
