About The Position

Alarm.com is looking for a Regulatory Compliance Engineer to lead regulatory compliance and product certification strategy across our connected residential and commercial products — security, video, and cloud-integrated IoT platforms. You’ll set the global compliance roadmap, get ahead of emerging regulations before they affect our products, and act as a key interface with testing laboratories and regulatory bodies. You’ll both shape strategy and contribute to certification work that brings products to market, partnering closely with hardware, firmware, and product teams.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
8+ years in regulatory compliance and hardware product certification within smart home, telecom, security, or related industries, including senior/lead experience.
Hands-on expertise with life-safety and security standards (e.g., UL 1023, UL 985, UL 864/2050, NFPA 72 or commercial equivalents) and global wireless/EMC regulations (FCC Part 15/68, ISED, EU RED/CE).
Experience with connected-device cybersecurity and privacy regulation (e.g., EU Cyber Resilience Act, UK PSTI, ETSI EN 303645, FCC Cyber Trust Mark, NDAA Section 889).
Familiarity with carrier certification frameworks (e.g., PTCRB, Verizon).
Proven ability to influence cross-functional engineering roadmaps and drive complex certification programs to completion.

Nice To Haves

Active participation in industry standards bodies or alliances (e.g., Z-Wave Alliance, LoRa Alliance, Connectivity Standards Alliance / Matter, Bluetooth SIG, or relevant working groups).
Experience with video/audio data privacy requirements (GDPR, US state privacy laws, BIPA).

Responsibilities

Own the global regulatory and certification strategy for residential and commercial security hardware, video, and cloud-integrated systems.
Monitor emerging regulatory frameworks, security mandates, and standards changes to identify risks and market-entry opportunities early in the product lifecycle, including active engagement with standards bodies and alliances to influence developing requirements where possible.
Translate regulatory standards into concrete engineering requirements, embedding life-safety, wireless, cybersecurity, and environmental standards into product architecture, test plans, and product requirements.
Lead certification execution end to end — planning and managing EMC/RF and product-safety test campaigns, authoring submission packages, and driving critical UL fire/burglary life-safety listings to completion.
Serve as the primary liaison with testing laboratories (e.g., UL, Intertek) and regulatory bodies (e.g., FCC, ISED, EU/CE), and manage carrier certifications (e.g., PTCRB, Verizon).
Define and maintain compliance systems, records, and standard operating procedures for the broader engineering organization, and ensure audit and carrier-review readiness.
Serve as the organization’s compliance subject-matter expert, advising and mentoring engineers across teams.
