Senior Registered Technologist, Shared Hospital Laboratory
About The Position
The Senior Registered Technologist is responsible for assisting the Operations Manager with providing efficient and effective leadership of the Shared Hospital Laboratory. This position requires advance knowledge of Bacteriology and Molecular theories, methodologies, equipment, Laboratory Information Systems, for providing technical and functional guidance to the staff. The Senior Technologist will assist the manager in implementing approved policies and procedures and to foster a team-oriented approach. The Senior Technologist will work together with the Manager regarding staffing, technical and daily operational issues including quality management, training and education.
Requirements
- Current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO required)
- Minimum 5 years of microbiology experience as an MLT
- In depth knowledge of total lab automation and advanced knowledge of microbiology identification and susceptibilities methods.
- Able to support validation or evaluation studies under the direction of the Microbiologist.
- Demonstrate ability to learn new methodologies.
- Must be capable of providing technical and theoretical support and guidance at an advanced level in microbiology to SHL staff
- Demonstrated expertise at problem solving.
- Advanced knowledge of laboratory computer systems (EPIC preferred)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skill.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.

- Excellent work performance and attendance record.
Nice To Haves
- Advanced training in Quality Management Systems is an asset
- Experience in writing standard operating procedures, policies and processes preferred
Responsibilities

- Assisting the manager in implementing approved policies and procedures.
- Fostering a team-oriented approach.
- Working with the Manager regarding staffing, technical and daily operational issues including quality management, training and education.
- Ensuring Quality assurance procedures are adhered to, addresses and responds to deficiencies promptly.
- Supports and coordinates the education and training of MLT, MLA and Medical/clinical microbiology trainees.
- Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards.
- Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community.
