About The Position

The Senior Regional Safety Manager will serve as the strategic safety leader for a portfolio of fulfillment centers, providing autonomous leadership of safety culture, risk management, regulatory compliance, and operational safety performance. This role partners directly with Regional Directors, General Managers, Engineering, Product automation, Compliance, and Operations teams to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with evolving fulfillment operations, including robotics, material handling automation, high-density storage systems, transportation operations, dangerous goods, food and beverage, print-on-demand, and emerging merchant verticals. The Senior Regional Safety Manager serves as the primary safety advisor to site leadership and has authority to escalate, challenge, and influence operational decisions that create unacceptable risk exposure. This role drives enterprise-wide risk reduction strategies through cross-functional leadership, ensuring safety considerations are embedded into facility design, automation deployments, operational processes, onboarding programs, and new business initiatives. The Senior Regional Safety Manager serves as the designated safety authority for their assigned region. This role is empowered to identify, escalate, and drive resolution of safety risks, require corrective actions, recommend operational controls, and exercise stop-work authority when conditions present unacceptable risk to employees, contractors, visitors, inventory, equipment, or business operations. The role partners closely with Operations leadership to ensure safety considerations are integrated into all operational decisions and site strategies. This role reports to the Senior Director, Global Safety & Compliance.

Requirements

  • Requires 50% travel.
  • 10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience, including multi-site distribution, fulfillment, manufacturing, automation, or logistics environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required in Safety Science, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, Risk Management or related field.
  • Demonstrated success building and leading safety management systems across geographically dispersed operations with varying risk profiles and operational complexity.
  • Demonstrated experience leading serious incident investigations involving significant injury potential, regulatory exposure, or operational disruption.
  • Experience supporting highly automated distribution, robotics, or advanced material handling environments.
  • Experience influencing senior operational leaders and driving cultural change across multiple sites.
  • Sound understanding of risk management methodologies, human factors, ergonomics, machine safety, and operational excellence principles.
  • Experience supporting complex fulfillment environments involving dangerous goods, food safety, regulated products, or specialized operational processes.
  • DOT compliance management.
  • Environmental compliance in stormwater, spill prevention, disposal of solid and hazardous waste.
  • Experience utilizing safety management systems, data analytics tools, incident management platforms, and operational reporting systems to drive risk-based decision making.
  • Distribution Center or Manufacturing SHE experience with mix of exempt and non-exempt employees at multiple sites of at least 250 people.
  • Experience applying continuous improvement, operational excellence, and risk reduction methodologies within rapidly scaling fulfillment or distribution environments.
  • Experience in a fast paced, dynamic organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with site leaders.
  • Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies.
  • Established analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, ARM, HACCP, PCQI, or equivalent safety and risk management credentials strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee safety strategy and risk governance across multiple fulfillment centers with varying operational profiles, including automated facilities, robotics-enabled operations, regulated inventory environments, and emerging business models.
  • Develop and execute regional safety strategies utilizing leading and lagging indicators, risk assessments, behavioral observations, near-miss trends, automation performance data, and operational metrics to proactively prevent incidents.
  • Evaluate safety impacts of new technologies, automation systems, robotics deployments, facility expansions, and operational process changes before implementation.
  • Own regional risk assessments and ensure site-specific controls are established for diverse merchant profiles, including dangerous goods, batteries, food and beverage, cosmetics, print-on-demand operations, and other regulated inventory categories.
  • Run serious incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action programs while driving accountability across operational leadership teams.
  • Develop and assist in rollout strategies for adequate, appropriate, and effective safety, health, and environmental, and regulatory training for associates.
  • Provide strategic guidance to Operations leadership on staffing models, workflow design, equipment utilization, and process modifications to ensure safe scaling of business operations.
  • Establish and maintain regional safety governance processes, serve as the designated regional safety authority, and drive accountability for corrective actions, risk mitigation, escalation management, and executive reporting.
  • Serve as the regional subject matter expert for robotics safety, machine guarding, automation risk assessments, lockout/tagout, and human-machine interaction controls.
  • Monitor and evaluate network safety trends, emerging risks, and regulatory developments, recommending strategic investments and risk reduction initiatives to executive leadership.
  • Partner with Partner Operations and third-party fulfillment partners to ensure consistent safety standards, risk controls, and regulatory compliance across the broader fulfillment network.
