About The Position

The City of Newport Beach is hiring Senior Recreation Leaders in various areas including Animal Shelter Services, Youth Programs, Aquatics Programs, Facility Set-up and Operations, Sailing and Boating Center Operations (Marina Park), and Senior Program (Oasis Senior Center). Applications are accepted on a continuous basis with the first review on May 19, 2026. Qualified applicants will be invited to a virtual interview. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list for future vacancies. A combination of experience and education may be qualifying. A valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record may be required for certain duties. Red Cross CPR and First Aid certificates are required within six months of hire. Candidates must pass a background review and be fingerprinted. City employees are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond in the event of a disaster.

Requirements

  • One year of work or volunteer experience in recreation, childcare, facilities set-up and operations, or related field.
  • Ability to read and write at a level required by the job.
  • Valid and acceptable driving record (may be required)
  • Red Cross CPR and First Aid certificates within six (6) months of hire.
  • Successfully complete a thorough background review, including being fingerprinted.

Nice To Haves

  • When assigned to Marine Education and Conservation: One year of experience working with the public in an interpretive or educational capacity.
  • When assigned to Marine Education and Conservation: Volunteer or work experience with marine conservation, outdoor life, natural history, environmental stewardship, and facilitating large groups is desirable.
  • When assigned to Marine Education and Conservation: Some college-level coursework in natural sciences, marine biology, zoology, or related subjects is highly desirable.
